Strong sequences, binary families and Esenin-Volpin's theorem

Marian Turzański (1992)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

One of the most important and well known theorem in the class of dyadic spaces is Esenin-Volpin's theorem of weight of dyadic spaces. The aim of this paper is to prove Esenin-Volpin's theorem in general form in class of thick spaces which possesses special subbases.

On π -caliber and an application of Prikry’s partial order

Andrzej Szymański (2011)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We study the concept of π -caliber as an alternative to the well known concept of caliber. π -caliber and caliber values coincide for regular cardinals greater than or equal to the Souslin number of a space. Unlike caliber, π -caliber may take on values below the Souslin number of a space. Under Martin’s axiom, 2 ω is a π -caliber of * . Prikry’s poset is used to settle a problem by Fedeli regarding possible values of very weak caliber.

Tightness and π-character in centered spaces

Murray Bell (1999)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We continue an investigation into centered spaces, a generalization of dyadic spaces. The presence of large Cantor cubes in centered spaces is deduced from tightness considerations. It follows that for centered spaces X, πχ(X) = t(X), and if X has uncountable tightness, then t(X) = supκ : 2 κ ⊂ X. The relationships between 9 popular cardinal functions for the class of centered spaces are justified. An example is constructed which shows, unlike the dyadic and polyadic properties, that the...

Reflecting topological properties in continuous images

Vladimir Tkachuk (2012)

Open Mathematics

Similarity:

Given a topological property P, we study when it reflects in small continuous images, i.e., when for some infinite cardinal κ, a space X has P if and only if all its continuous images of weight less or equal to κ have P. We say that a cardinal invariant η reflects in continuous images of weight κ + if η(X) ≤ κ provided that η(Y) ≤ κ whenever Y is a continuous image of X of weight less or equal to κ +. We establish that, for any infinite cardinal κ, the spread, character, pseudocharacter...
