Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians

On the solution of a finite element approximation of a linear obstacle plate problem

Luis Fernandes, Isabel Figueiredo, Joaquim Júdice (2002)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

In this paper the solution of a finite element approximation of a linear obstacle plate problem is investigated. A simple version of an interior point method and a block pivoting algorithm have been proposed for the solution of this problem. Special purpose implementations of these procedures are included and have been used in the solution of a set of test problems. The results of these experiences indicate that these procedures are quite efficient to deal with these instances and compare...

Wetting on rough surfaces and contact angle hysteresis: numerical experiments based on a phase field model

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Similarity:

We present a phase field approach to wetting problems, related to the minimization of capillary energy. We discuss in detail both the -convergence results on which our numerical algorithm are based, and numerical implementation. Two possible choices of boundary conditions, needed to recover Young's law for the contact angle, are presented. We also consider an extension of the classical theory of capillarity, in which the introduction of a dissipation mechanism can explain and predict...

Membrane-Channel Protein System Mesh Construction for Finite Element Simulations

Molecular Based Mathematical Biology

Similarity:

We present a method of constructing the volume meshes of the membrane-channel protein system for finite element simulation of ion channels. The membrane channel system consists of the solvent region and the membrane-protein region. Our method focuses on labeling the tetrahedra in the solvent and membrane-protein regions and collecting the interface triangles between different regions. It contains two stages. Firstly, a volume mesh conforming the surface of the channel protein is generated...

EasyMSG : tools and techniques for an adaptive overlapping in SPMD programming

Pascal Havé (2002)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

Similarity:

During the development of a parallel solver for Maxwell equations by integral formulations and Fast Multipole Method (FMM), we needed to optimize a critical part including a lot of communications and computations. Generally, many parallel programs need to communicate, but choosing explicitly the way and the instant may decrease the efficiency of the overall program. So, the overlapping of computations and communications may be a way to reduce this drawback. We will see a implementation...

Modelling of convective phenomena in forest fire.

RACSAM

Similarity:

We present a model coupling the fire propagation equations in a bidimensional domain representing the surface, and the air movement equations in a three dimensional domain representing an air layer. As the air layer thickness is small compared with its length, an asymptotic analysis gives a three dimensional convective model governed by a bidimensional equation verified by a stream function. We also present the numerical simulations of these equations.
