Numerical simulation of a point-source initiated flame ball with heat losses

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Similarity:

This article is devoted to the numerical study of a flame ball model, derived by Joulin, which obeys to a singular integro-differential equation. The numerical scheme that we analyze here, is based upon a one step method, and we are interested in its long-time behaviour. We recover the same dynamics as in the continuous case: quenching, or stabilization of the flame, depending on heat losses, and an energy input parameter.

Numerical modeling of heat exchange and unsaturated-saturated flow in porous media

Kačur, Jozef, Mihala, Patrik, Tóth, Michal

Similarity:

We discuss the numerical modeling of heat exchange between the infiltrated water and porous media matrix. An unsaturated-saturated flow is considered with boundary conditions reflecting the external driven forces. The developed numerical method is efficient and can be used for solving the inverse problems concerning determination of transmission coefficients for heat energy exchange inside and also on the boundary of porous media. Numerical experiments support our method.

Rozehnalová, Petra, Kučerová, Anna, Štěpánek, Petr

Similarity:

Paper deals with hydro-thermal performance of concrete exposed to a fire. It is introduced mathematical model, numerical approach and some results provided by the model.

Mathematical modeling of hygro-thermal processes in deformed porous media

Beneš, Michal, Krupička, Lukáš

Similarity:

In this contribution we propose a model of coupled heat and moisture transport in variable saturated deformed porous media. Solution of this model provides temperature, moisture content and strain as a function of space and time. We present the detailed description of the model and a~numerical illustrative example.

On the importance of solid deformations in convection-dominated liquid/solid phase change of pure materials

Daniela Mansutti, Edoardo Bucchignani (2011)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

We analyse the effect of the mechanical response of the solid phase during liquid/solid phase change by numerical simulation of a benchmark test based on the well-known and debated experiment of melting of a pure gallium slab counducted by Gau & Viskanta in 1986. The adopted mathematical model includes the description of the melt flow and of the solid phase deformations. Surprisingly the conclusion reached is that, even in this case of pure material, the contribution of the solid...
