A numerical procedure for filtering and efficient high-order signal differentiation

Salim Ibrir, Sette Diop (2004)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

In this paper, we propose a numerical algorithm for filtering and robust signal differentiation. The numerical procedure is based on the solution of a simplified linear optimization problem. A compromise between smoothing and fidelity with respect to the measurable data is achieved by the computation of an optimal regularization parameter that minimizes the Generalized Cross Validation criterion (GCV). Simulation results are given to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed procedure. ...

Application of splines for determining the velocity characteristic of a medium from a vertical seismic survey

Open Mathematics

Similarity:

A method for solving the inverse kinematic problem of determining the velocity characteristic of a medium from a vertical seismic survey, is proposed. It is based on the combined use of the eikonal equation and spline methods of approximation for multivariable functions. The problem is solved by assuming a horizontally stratified medium; no assumptions about the number of layers and their thickness are made. First, using the data of the first arrival times of the seismic signal from...

Fusion based analysis of ophthalmologic image data

Kybernetika

Similarity:

The paper presents an overview of image analysis activities of the Brno DAR group in the medical application area of retinal imaging. Particularly, illumination correction and SNR enhancement by registered averaging as preprocessing steps are briefly described; further mono- and multimodal registration methods developed for specific types of ophthalmological images, and methods for segmentation of optical disc, retinal vessel tree and autofluorescence areas are presented. Finally, the...

Numerical studies of parameter estimation techniques for nonlinear evolution equations

Similarity:

We briefly discuss an abstract approximation framework and a convergence theory of parameter estimation for a general class of nonautonomous nonlinear evolution equations. A detailed discussion of the above theory has been given earlier by the authors in another paper. The application of this theory together with numerical results indicating the feasibility of this general least squares approach are presented in the context of quasilinear reaction diffusion equations.
