Classes of distribution semigroups

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We introduce various classes of distribution semigroups distinguished by their behavior at the origin. We relate them to quasi-distribution semigroups and integrated semigroups. A class of such semigroups, called strong distribution semigroups, is characterized through the value at the origin in the sense of Łojasiewicz. It contains smooth distribution semigroups as a subclass. Moreover, the analysis of the behavior at the origin involves intrinsic structural results for semigroups....

Convergence at the origin of integrated semigroups

Vincent Cachia (2008)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We study a classification of κ-times integrated semigroups (for κ > 0) by their (uniform) rate of convergence at the origin: | | S ( t ) | | = ( t α ) as t → 0 (0 ≤ α ≤ κ). By an improved generation theorem we characterize this behaviour by Hille-Yosida type estimates. Then we consider integrated semigroups with holomorphic extension and characterize their convergence at the origin, as well as the existence of boundary values, by estimates of the associated holomorphic semigroup. Various examples illustrate...

Inverses of generators of nonanalytic semigroups

Similarity:

Suppose A is an injective linear operator on a Banach space that generates a uniformly bounded strongly continuous semigroup e t A t 0 . It is shown that A - 1 generates an O ( 1 + τ ) A ( 1 - A ) - 1 -regularized semigroup. Several equivalences for A - 1 generating a strongly continuous semigroup are given. These are used to generate sufficient conditions on the growth of e t A t 0 , on subspaces, for A - 1 generating a strongly continuous semigroup, and to show that the inverse of -d/dx on the closure of its image in L¹([0,∞)) does not generate...

On the theory of remediability

Hassan Emamirad (2003)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Suppose G ( t ) t 0 and G ( t ) t 0 are two families of semigroups on a Banach space X (not necessarily of class C₀) such that for some initial datum u₀, G₁(t)u₀ tends towards an undesirable state u*. After remedying by means of an operator ρ we continue the evolution of the state by applying G₂(t) and after time 2t we retrieve a prosperous state u given by u = G₂(t)ρG₁(t)u₀. Here we are concerned with various properties of the semigroup (t): ρ → G₂(t)ρG₁(t). We define (X) to be the space of remedial operators...

The asymptotic behaviour of the counting functions of Ω-sets in arithmetical semigroups

Maciej Radziejewski (2014)

Acta Arithmetica

Similarity:

We consider an axiomatically-defined class of arithmetical semigroups that we call simple L-semigroups. This class includes all generalized Hilbert semigroups, in particular the semigroup of non-zero integers in any algebraic number field. We show, for all positive integers k, that the counting function of the set of elements with at most k distinct factorization lengths in such a semigroup has oscillations of logarithmic frequency and size x ( l o g x ) - M for some M>0. More generally, we show...

Analytic semigroups on vector valued noncommutative L p -spaces

Cédric Arhancet (2013)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We give sufficient conditions on an operator space E and on a semigroup of operators on a von Neumann algebra M to obtain a bounded analytic or R-analytic semigroup ( ( T I d E ) t 0 on the vector valued noncommutative L p -space L p ( M , E ) . Moreover, we give applications to the H ( Σ θ ) functional calculus of the generators of these semigroups, generalizing some earlier work of M. Junge, C. Le Merdy and Q. Xu.

Let be a locally compact Hausdorff space. Let A i , i = 0,1,...,N, be generators of Feller semigroups in C₀() with related Feller processes X i = X i ( t ) , t 0 and let α i , i = 0,...,N, be non-negative continuous functions on with i = 0 N α i = 1 . Assume that the closure A of k = 0 N α k A k defined on i = 0 N ( A i ) generates a Feller semigroup T(t), t ≥ 0 in C₀(). A natural interpretation of a related Feller process X = X(t), t ≥ 0 is that it evolves according to the following heuristic rules: conditional on being at a point p ∈ , with probability...

On a functional equation with derivative and symmetrization

Adam Bobrowski, Małgorzata Kubalińska (2006)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

We study existence, uniqueness and form of solutions to the equation α g - β g ' + γ g e = f where α, β, γ and f are given, and g e stands for the even part of a searched-for differentiable function g. This equation emerged naturally as a result of the analysis of the distribution of a certain random process modelling a population genetics phenomenon.

In a Banach space E , let U ( t ) ( t > 0 ) be a C 0 -semigroup with generating operator A . For a cone K E with non-empty interior we show: ( )     U ( t ) [ K ] K ( t > 0 ) holds if and only if A is quasimonotone increasing with respect to K . On the other hand, if A is not continuous, then there exists a regular cone K E such that A is quasimonotone increasing, but ( ) does not hold.

Local and global solutions of well-posed integrated Cauchy problems

Pedro J. Miana (2008)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We study the local well-posed integrated Cauchy problem v ' ( t ) = A v ( t ) + ( t α ) / Γ ( α + 1 ) x , v(0) = 0, t ∈ [0,κ), with κ > 0, α ≥ 0, and x ∈ X, where X is a Banach space and A a closed operator on X. We extend solutions increasing the regularity in α. The global case (κ = ∞) is also treated in detail. Growth of solutions is given in both cases.

Square functions, bounded analytic semigroups, and applications

Christian Le Merdy (2007)

Similarity:

To any bounded analytic semigroup on Hilbert space or on L p -space, one may associate natural ’square functions’. In this survey paper, we review old and recent results on these square functions, as well as some extensions to various classes of Banach spaces, including noncommutative L p -spaces, Banach lattices, and their subspaces. We give some applications to H functional calculus, similarity problems, multiplier theory, and control theory.

The maximal subsemigroups of the ideals of some semigroups of partial injections

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

Similarity:

We study the structure of the ideals of the semigroup I O n of all isotone (order-preserving) partial injections as well as of the semigroup I M n of all monotone (order-preserving or order-reversing) partial injections on an n-element set. The main result is the characterization of the maximal subsemigroups of the ideals of I O n and I M n .
