This paper is devoted to singular calculus of variations problems with constraint functional not regular at the solution point in the sense that the first derivative is not surjective. In the first part of the paper we pursue an approach based on the constructions of the p-regularity theory. For p-regular calculus of variations problem we formulate and prove necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality in singular case and illustrate our results by classical example of calculus...

We study the existence of positive solutions to a class of singular nonlinear fourth-order boundary value problems in which the nonlinearity may lack homogeneity. By introducing suitable control functions and applying cone expansion and cone compression, we prove three existence theorems. Our main results improve the existence result in [Z. L. Wei, Appl. Math. Comput. 153 (2004), 865-884] where the nonlinearity has a certain homogeneity.

The theory of p-regularity has approximately twenty-five years’ history and many results have been obtained up to now. The main result of this theory is description of tangent cone to zero set in singular case. However there are numerous nonlinear objects for which the p-regularity condition fails, especially for p > 2. In this paper we generalize the p-regularity notion as a starting point for more detailed consideration based on different p-factor operators constructions. ...

We investigate the existence of the solution to the following problem min φ(x) subject to G(x)=0, where φ: X → ℝ, G: X → Y and X,Y are Banach spaces. The question of existence is considered in a neighborhood of such point x₀ that the Hessian of the Lagrange function is degenerate. There was obtained an approximation for the distance of solution x* to the initial point x₀.

We show the local Hölder regularity of Almgren minimal cones of dimension 3 in ℝⁿ away from their centers. The proof is almost elementary but we use the generalized theorem of Reifenberg. In the proof, we give a classification of points away from the center of a minimal cone of dimension 3 in ℝⁿ, into types ℙ, 𝕐 and 𝕋. We then treat each case separately and give a local Hölder parameterization of the cone.

We prove the hypoellipticity for systems of Hörmander type with constant coefficients in Carnot groups of step 2. This result is used to implement blow-up methods and prove partial regularity for local minimizers of non-convex functionals, and for solutions of non-linear systems which appear in the study of non-isotropic metric structures with scalings. We also establish estimates of the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set.
