A variational approach to bifurcation points of a reaction-diffusion system with obstacles and Neumann boundary conditions

Jan Eisner, Milan Kučera, Martin Väth (2016)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

Given a reaction-diffusion system which exhibits Turing's diffusion-driven instability, the influence of unilateral obstacles of opposite sign (source and sink) on bifurcation and critical points is studied. In particular, in some cases it is shown that spatially nonhomogeneous stationary solutions (spatial patterns) bifurcate from a basic spatially homogeneous steady state for an arbitrarily small ratio of diffusions of inhibitor and activator, while a sufficiently large ratio is necessary...

Application of relaxation scheme to degenerate variational inequalities

Jela Babušíková (2001)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

In this paper we are concerned with the solution of degenerate variational inequalities. To solve this problem numerically, we propose a numerical scheme which is based on the relaxation scheme using non-standard time discretization. The approximate solution on each time level is obtained in the iterative way by solving the corresponding elliptic variational inequalities. The convergence of the method is proved.

Solution of degenerate parabolic variational inequalities with convection

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Similarity:

Degenerate parabolic variational inequalities with convection are solved by means of a combined relaxation method and method of characteristics. The mathematical problem is motivated by Richard's equation, modelling the unsaturated – saturated flow in porous media. By means of the relaxation method we control the degeneracy. The dominance of the convection is controlled by the method of characteristics.

Characterization of the order induced by uninorm with the underlying drastic product or drastic sum

Kybernetika

Similarity:

In this article, we investigate the algebraic structures of the partial orders induced by uninorms on a bounded lattice. For a class of uninorms with the underlying drastic product or drastic sum, we first present some conditions making a bounded lattice also a lattice with respect to the order induced by such uninorms. And then we completely characterize the distributivity of the lattices obtained.

Finite atomistic lattices that can be represented as lattices of quasivarieties

We prove that a finite atomistic lattice can be represented as a lattice of quasivarieties if and only if it is isomorphic to the lattice of all subsemilattices of a finite semilattice. This settles a conjecture that appeared in the context of [11].
