The paper is devoted to the structural relation between beliefs and goals. I discuss its importance in modelling cognitive agents; its origin in cognitive processing; its structure (belief structure relative to a goal); its crucial role in rationality, mediating between epistemic and pragmatic rationality; its role in goal Dynamics. I stress the crucial contribution of the supporting beliefs to the Processing of goals; to the Revision of goals (or Dynamics in a narrow sense), i.e. the...

The motivation for this paper arises out of the authors experiences in modelling real decision makers where the decisions show not only a continuous response to a continuously changing environment but also sudden or discontinuous changes. The theoretical basis involves a parametric characterisation of the environment, a decision makers perception of it in terms of a twice differentiable Distribution Function and a bounded Loss Function. Under a specified minimizing dynamic, the resultant...

The aim of this paper is to develop a new aggregating method for the decision problem in which the possible values of rewards are known in linguistic terms. We show new operators for solving this problem, as well as the way in which OWA operators provide us with an adequate framework for representing the optimism degree of the decision maker in case we have no information about the real state.

We consider the multi-attribute decision making problem with incomplete information on the decision maker's preferences, given by an imprecise vector utility function. We introduce an approximation set to the utility efficient set which may be used to aid a decision maker in reaching a final compromise strategy. We provide sorne properties and an interactive procedure based on such approximation set.
