Construction, properties and applications of finite neofields

Anthony Donald Keedwell (2000)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We give a short account of the construction and properties of left neofields. Most useful in practice seem to be neofields based on the cyclic group and particularly those having an additional divisibility property, called . We shall give examples of applications to the construction of orthogonal latin squares, to the design of tournaments balanced for residual effects and to cryptography.

Biembeddings of symmetric configurations and 3-homogeneous Latin trades

Mike J. Grannell, Terry S. Griggs, Martin Knor (2008)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

Using results of Altshuler and Negami, we present a classification of biembeddings of symmetric configurations of triples in the torus or Klein bottle. We also give an alternative proof of the structure of 3-homogeneous Latin trades.

Lagrange’s Four-Square Theorem

Yasushige Watase (2014)

Formalized Mathematics

Similarity:

This article provides a formalized proof of the so-called “the four-square theorem”, namely any natural number can be expressed by a sum of four squares, which was proved by Lagrange in 1770. An informal proof of the theorem can be found in the number theory literature, e.g. in [14], [1] or [23]. This theorem is item #19 from the “Formalizing 100 Theorems” list maintained by Freek Wiedijk at http://www.cs.ru.nl/F.Wiedijk/100/.

Penalized Least Squares Fitting

von Golitschek, Manfred, Schumaker, Larry (2002)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

* Supported by the Army Research Office under grant DAAD-19-02-10059. Bounds on the error of certain penalized least squares data fitting methods are derived. In addition to general results in a fairly abstract setting, more detailed results are included for several particularly interesting special cases, including splines in both one and several variables.
