On a phase transition model of Penrose-Fife type

Gianni Gilardi (2004)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Similarity:

We deal with a Penrose-Fife type model for phase transition. We assume a rather general constitutive low for the heat flux and treat the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary condition for the temperature. Some of our proofs apply to different types of boundary conditions as well and improve some results existing in the literature.

Hysteresis operators in phase-field models of Penrose-fife type

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

Phase-field systems as mathematical models for phase transitions have drawn a considerable attention in recent years. However, while they are suitable for capturing many of the experimentally observed phenomena, they are only of restricted value in modelling hysteresis effects occurring during phase transition processes. To overcome this shortcoming of existing phase-field theories, the authors have recently proposed a new approach to phase-field models which is based on the mathematical...

On a conserved Penrose-Fife type system

Gianni Gilardi, Andrea Marson (2005)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

We deal with a class of Penrose-Fife type phase field models for phase transitions, where the phase dynamics is ruled by a Cahn-Hilliard type equation. Suitable assumptions on the behaviour of the heat flux as the absolute temperature tends to zero and to + are considered. An existence result is obtained by a double approximation procedure and compactness methods. Moreover, uniqueness and regularity results are proved as well.

Singular limit of a transmission problem for the parabolic phase-field model

Giulio Schimperna (2000)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

A transmission problem describing the thermal interchange between two regions occupied by possibly different fluids, which may present phase transitions, is studied in the framework of the Caginalp-Fix phase field model. Dirichlet (or Neumann) and Cauchy conditions are required. A regular solution is obtained by means of approximation techniques for parabolic systems. Then, an asymptotic study of the problem is carried out as the time relaxation parameter for the phase field tends to...
