On prefermentative maceration techniques: statistical analysis of sensory descriptors in Sangiovese wine

Alessandro Magrini, Ottorino L. Pantani, Alessandra Biondi Bartolini, Federico M. Stefanini (2016)

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

The analysis of wine sensory descriptors is a fundamental step in the improvement of wine making, because the procedures are judged just before bottled wine is ready for consumption. Despite several contributions in the literature, traditional analysis of variance methods are not adequate to analyse sensory descriptors, because they are defined on ordinal scales. In this paper, we exploit cumulative link mixed models in a three-way full factorial design to assess the effect of prefermentative...

Instability of mixed finite elements for Richards' equation

Březina, Jan

Similarity:

Richards' equation is a widely used model of partially saturated flow in a porous medium. In order to obtain conservative velocity field several authors proposed to use mixed or mixed-hybrid schemes to solve the equation. In this paper, we shall analyze the mixed scheme on 1D domain and we show that it violates the discrete maximum principle which leads to catastrophic oscillations in the solution.

Influenza Transmission in Preschools: Modulation by contact landscapes and interventions

A.A. Adalja, P.S. Crooke, J.R. Hotchkiss (2010)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

Similarity:

Epidemiologic data suggest that schools and daycare facilities likely play a major role in the dissemination of influenza. Pathogen transmission within such small, inhomogenously mixed populations is difficult to model using traditional approaches. We developed simulation based mathematical tool to investigate the effects of social contact networks on pathogen dissemination in a setting analogous to a daycare center or grade school. Here ...

Mixed 3-Sasakian structures and curvature

Angelo V. Caldarella, Anna Maria Pastore (2009)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

We deal with two classes of mixed metric 3-structures, namely the mixed 3-Sasakian structures and the mixed metric 3-contact structures. First, we study some properties of the curvature of mixed 3-Sasakian structures. Then we prove the identity between the class of mixed 3-Sasakian structures and the class of mixed metric 3-contact structures.

A note on the comparison of mixed-effects models for longitudinal studies

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

This paper concerns methods of choosing appropriate models for longitudinal studies. Attention is paid to three criteria: the marginal Akaike Information Criterion (mAIC), the conditional Akaike Information Criterion (cAIC), and the corrected conditional Akaike Information Criterion (ccAIC). We consider these criteria based on an example concerning the effect of storage time and addition of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) preparations (i.e. ground flaxseeds, defatted flaxseed meal...
