The gamma and Rayleigh distributions are two of the most applied distributions in engineering. Motivated by engineering issues, the exact distribution of the quotient X/Y is derived when X and Y are independent gamma and Rayleigh random variables. Tabulations of the associated percentage points and a computer program for generating them are also given.

Burr distributions are some of the most versatile distributions in statistics. In this paper, a drought application is described by deriving the exact distributions of U = XY and W = X/(X+Y) when X and Y are independent Burr XII random variables. Drought data from the State of Nebraska are used.

Generalized F tests were introduced for linear models by Michalski and Zmyślony (1996, 1999). When the observations are taken in not perfectly standardized conditions the F tests have generalized F distributions with random non-centrality parameters, see Nunes and Mexia (2006). We now study the case of nearly normal perturbations leading to Gamma distributed non-centrality parameters.

The main goal of this paper is to study the accuracy of approximation for the distributions of negative-binomial random sums of independent, identically distributed random variables by the gamma distribution.

The standard ECOGEN (a simulation language based on Pascal) random deviate generators are described. For every one of them, a short usage note and a description of the algorithm and underlying theory is presented. This paper must be considered as an addenda to a previous one where the ECOGEN language was described. The ECOGEN random deviate generators include the continuous and discrete uniform, Poisson, binomial, exponential, Cauchy, normal or Laplace-Gauss, beta, gamma, Weibull, Pareto...

We study the limiting distribution of the maximum value of a stationary bivariate real random field satisfying suitable weak mixing conditions. In the first part, when the double dimensions of the random samples have a geometric growing pattern, a max-semistable distribution is obtained. In the second part, considering the random field sampled at double random times, a mixture distribution is established for the limiting distribution of the maximum.
