The gamma-uniform distribution and its applications

Hamzeh Torabi, Narges Montazeri Hedesh (2012)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

Up to present for modelling and analyzing of random phenomenons, some statistical distributions are proposed. This paper considers a new general class of distributions, generated from the logit of the gamma random variable. A special case of this family is the Gamma-Uniform distribution. We derive expressions for the four moments, variance, skewness, kurtosis, Shannon and Rényi entropy of this distribution. We also discuss the asymptotic distribution of the extreme order statistics,...

Variations on undirected graphical models and their relationships

David Heckerman, Christopher Meek, Thomas Richardson (2014)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

We compare alternative definitions of undirected graphical models for discrete, finite variables. Lauritzen [7] provides several definitions of such models and describes their relationships. He shows that the definitions agree only when joint distributions represented by the models are limited to strictly positive distributions. Heckerman et al. [6], in their paper on dependency networks, describe another definition of undirected graphical models for strictly positive distributions....

A new family of compound lifetime distributions

Kybernetika

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce a general family of continuous lifetime distributions by compounding any continuous distribution and the Poisson-Lindley distribution. It is more flexible than several recently introduced lifetime distributions. The failure rate functions of our family can be increasing, decreasing, bathtub shaped and unimodal shaped. Several properties of this family are investigated including shape characteristics of the probability density, moments, order statistics, (reversed)...

Misclassified size-biased modified power series distribution and its applications

Anwar Hassan, Peer Bilal Ahmad (2009)

Mathematica Bohemica

Similarity:

A misclassified size-biased modified power series distribution (MSBMPSD) where some of the observations corresponding to x = 2 are misclassified as x = 1 with probability α , is defined. We obtain its recurrence relations among ordinary, central and factorial moments and also for some of its particular cases like the size-biased generalized negative binomial (SBGNB) and the size-biased generalized Poisson (SBGP) distributions. We also discuss the effect of the misclassification on the variance...

Chance constrained problems: penalty reformulation and performance of sample approximation technique

Martin Branda (2012)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

We explore reformulation of nonlinear stochastic programs with several joint chance constraints by stochastic programs with suitably chosen penalty-type objectives. We show that the two problems are asymptotically equivalent. Simpler cases with one chance constraint and particular penalty functions were studied in [6,11]. The obtained problems with penalties and with a fixed set of feasible solutions are simpler to solve and analyze then the chance constrained programs. We discuss solving...
