The Ascoli property for function spaces and the weak topology of Banach and Fréchet spaces

S. Gabriyelyan, J. Kąkol, G. Plebanek (2016)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Following Banakh and Gabriyelyan (2016) we say that a Tychonoff space X is an Ascoli space if every compact subset of C k ( X ) is evenly continuous; this notion is closely related to the classical Ascoli theorem. Every k -space, hence any k-space, is Ascoli. Let X be a metrizable space. We prove that the space C k ( X ) is Ascoli iff C k ( X ) is a k -space iff X is locally compact. Moreover, C k ( X ) endowed with the weak topology is Ascoli iff X is countable and discrete. Using some basic concepts from probability...

A hit-and-miss topology for 2 X , Cₙ(X) and Fₙ(X)

Benjamín Espinoza, Verónica Martínez-de-la-Vega, Jorge M. Martínez-Montejano (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

A hit-and-miss topology ( τ H M ) is defined for the hyperspaces 2 X , Cₙ(X) and Fₙ(X) of a continuum X. We study the relationship between τ H M and the Vietoris topology and we find conditions on X for which these topologies are equivalent.

Extension operators on balls and on spaces of finite sets

Antonio Avilés, Witold Marciszewski (2015)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We study extension operators between spaces of continuous functions on the spaces σ ( 2 X ) of subsets of X of cardinality at most n. As an application, we show that if B H is the unit ball of a nonseparable Hilbert space H equipped with the weak topology, then, for any 0 < λ < μ, there is no extension operator T : C ( λ B H ) C ( μ B H ) .

A multiplier theorem for Fourier series in several variables

Nakhle Asmar, Florence Newberger, Saleem Watson (2006)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We define a new type of multiplier operators on L p ( N ) , where N is the N-dimensional torus, and use tangent sequences from probability theory to prove that the operator norms of these multipliers are independent of the dimension N. Our construction is motivated by the conjugate function operator on L p ( N ) , to which the theorem applies as a particular example.

Further new generalized topologies via mixed constructions due to Császár

Erdal Ekici (2015)

Mathematica Bohemica

Similarity:

The theory of generalized topologies was introduced by Á. Császár (2002). In the literature, some authors have introduced and studied generalized topologies and some generalized topologies via generalized topological spaces due to Á. Császár. Also, the notions of mixed constructions based on two generalized topologies were introduced and investigated by Á. Császár (2009). The main aim of this paper is to introduce and study further new generalized topologies called μ 12 C via mixed constructions...

On the structure of non-dentable subsets of C ( ω ω k )

Pericles D. Pavlakos, Minos Petrakis (2011)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

It is shown that there is no closed convex bounded non-dentable subset K of C ( ω ω k ) such that on subsets of K the PCP and the RNP are equivalent properties. Then applying the Schachermayer-Rosenthal theorem, we conclude that every non-dentable K contains a non-dentable subset L so that on L the weak topology coincides with the norm topology. It follows from known results that the RNP and the KMP are equivalent on subsets of C ( ω ω k ) .

Kempisty's theorem for the integral product quasicontinuity

Zbigniew Grande (2006)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

A function f: ℝⁿ → ℝ satisfies the condition Q i ( x ) (resp. Q s ( x ) , Q o ( x ) ) at a point x if for each real r > 0 and for each set U ∋ x open in the Euclidean topology of ℝⁿ (resp. strong density topology, ordinary density topology) there is an open set I such that I ∩ U ≠ ∅ and | ( 1 / μ ( U I ) ) U I f ( t ) d t - f ( x ) | < r . Kempisty’s theorem concerning the product quasicontinuity is investigated for the above notions.

An M q ( ) -functional calculus for power-bounded operators on certain UMD spaces

Earl Berkson, T. A. Gillespie (2005)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

For 1 ≤ q < ∞, let q ( ) denote the Banach algebra consisting of the bounded complex-valued functions on the unit circle having uniformly bounded q-variation on the dyadic arcs. We describe a broad class ℐ of UMD spaces such that whenever X ∈ ℐ, the sequence space ℓ²(ℤ,X) admits the classes q ( ) as Fourier multipliers, for an appropriate range of values of q > 1 (the range of q depending on X). This multiplier result expands the vector-valued Marcinkiewicz Multiplier Theorem in the direction...
