The HeKatE methodology. Hybrid engineering of intelligent systems

Grzegorz J. Nalepa, Antoni Ligęza (2010)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

This paper describes a new approach, the HeKatE methodology, to the design and development of complex rule-based systems for control and decision support. The main paradigm for rule representation, namely, eXtended Tabular Trees (XTT), ensures high density and transparency of visual knowledge representation. Contrary to traditional, flat rule-based systems, the XTT approach is focused on groups of similar rules rather than on single rules. Such groups form decision tables which are connected into...

Totally coherent set-valued probability assessments

Angelo Gilio, Salvatore Ingrassia (1998)

Kybernetika

We introduce the concept of total coherence of a set-valued probability assessment on a family of conditional events. In particular we give sufficient and necessary conditions of total coherence in the case of interval-valued probability assessments. Some relevant cases in which the set-valued probability assessment is represented by the unitary hypercube are also considered.

Using fuzzy similarity relations to revise and update a knowledge base.

Ricardo Rodríguez, Pere García, Lluis Godo (1996)

Mathware and Soft Computing

Similarity-based models were first used by Ruspini to give semantics to fuzzy logic. In these models, incomplete information is represented by an evidential set, i.e. a set of possible worlds that are compatible with the evidence, together with a fuzzy similarity relation} on the set of possible worlds that allows to describe the resemblance of arbitrary subsets of worlds to those belonging to the evidencial set. On the other hand, the question addressed by theory change formalisms is which kind...

Weighting quantitative and qualitative variables in clustering methods.

Karina Gibert, Ulises Cortés (1997)

Mathware and Soft Computing

Description of individuals in ill-structured domains produces messy data matrices. In this context, automated classification requires the management of those kind of matrices. One of the features involved in clustering is the evaluation of distances between individuals. Then, a special function to calculate distances between individuals partially simultaneously described by qualitative and quantitative variables is required. In this paper properties and details of the metrics used by Klass in this...
