Cellularity of free products of Boolean algebras (or topologies)

Saharon Shelah (2000)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

The aim this paper is to present an answer to Problem 1 of Monk [10], [11]. We do this by proving in particular that if μ is a strong limit singular cardinal, θ = ( 2 c f ( μ ) ) + and 2 μ = μ + then there are Boolean algebras 𝔹 1 , 𝔹 2 such that c ( 𝔹 1 ) = μ , c ( 𝔹 2 ) < θ b u t c ( 𝔹 1 * 𝔹 2 ) = μ + . Further we improve this result, deal with the method and the necessity of the assumptions. In particular we prove that if 𝔹 is a ccc Boolean algebra and μ ω λ = c f ( λ ) 2 μ then 𝔹 satisfies the λ-Knaster condition (using the “revised GCH theorem”).

The smallest common extension of a sequence of models of ZFC

Lev Bukovský, Jaroslav Skřivánek (1994)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this note, we show that the model obtained by finite support iteration of a sequence of generic extensions of models of ZFC of length ω is sometimes the smallest common extension of this sequence and very often it is not.

Stability of the 4-2 Binary Addition Circuit Cells. Part I

Katsumi Wasaki (2008)

Formalized Mathematics

Similarity:

To evaluate our formal verification method on a real-size calculation circuit, in this article, we continue to formalize the concept of the 4-2 Binary Addition Cell primitives (FTAs) to define the structures of calculation units for a very fast multiplication algorithm for VLSI implementation [11]. We define the circuit structure of four-types FTAs, TYPE-0 to TYPE-3, using the series constructions of the Generalized Full Adder Circuits (GFAs) that generalized adder to have for each positive...

A forcing construction of thin-tall Boolean algebras

Juan Martínez (1999)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

It was proved by Juhász and Weiss that for every ordinal α with 0 < α < ω 2 there is a superatomic Boolean algebra of height α and width ω. We prove that if κ is an infinite cardinal such that κ < κ = κ and α is an ordinal such that 0 < α < κ + + , then there is a cardinal-preserving partial order that forces the existence of a superatomic Boolean algebra of height α and width κ. Furthermore, iterating this forcing through all α < κ + + , we obtain a notion of forcing that preserves cardinals and such that in the corresponding...

A note on Tsirelson type ideals

Boban Veličković (1999)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Using Tsirelson’s well-known example of a Banach space which does not contain a copy of c 0 or l p , for p ≥ 1, we construct a simple Borel ideal I T such that the Borel cardinalities of the quotient spaces P ( ) / I T and P ( ) / I 0 are incomparable, where I 0 is the summable ideal of all sets A ⊆ ℕ such that n A 1 / ( n + 1 ) < . This disproves a “trichotomy” conjecture for Borel ideals proposed by Kechris and Mazur.

Parametrized Cichoń's diagram and small sets

Janusz Pawlikowski, Ireneusz Recław (1995)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We parametrize Cichoń’s diagram and show how cardinals from Cichoń’s diagram yield classes of small sets of reals. For instance, we show that there exist subsets N and M of w w × 2 w and continuous functions e , f : w w w w such that  • N is G δ and N x : x w w , the collection of all vertical sections of N, is a basis for the ideal of measure zero subsets of 2 w ;  • M is F σ and M x : x w w is a basis for the ideal of meager subsets of 2 w ;  • x , y N e ( x ) N y M x M f ( y ) . From this we derive that for a separable metric space X,  •if for all Borel (resp. G δ ) sets...

Partition properties of subsets of Pκλ

Masahiro Shioya (1999)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let κ > ω be a regular cardinal and λ > κ a cardinal. The following partition property is shown to be consistent relative to a supercompact cardinal: For any f : n < ω [ X ] n γ with X P κ λ unbounded and 1 < γ < κ there is an unbounded Y ∪ X with | f ' ' [ Y ] n | = 1 for any n < ω.

On a discrete version of the antipodal theorem

Krzysztof Oleszkiewicz (1996)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

The classical theorem of Borsuk and Ulam [2] says that for any continuous mapping f : S k k there exists a point x S k such that f(-x) = f(x). In this note a discrete version of the antipodal theorem is proved in which S k is replaced by the set of vertices of a high-dimensional cube equipped with Hamming’s metric. In place of equality we obtain some optimal estimates of i n f x | | f ( x ) - f ( - x ) | | which were previously known (as far as the author knows) only for f linear (cf. [1]).

Σ -products of paracompact Čech-scattered spaces

Hidenori Tanaka (2006)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this paper, we shall discuss Σ -products of paracompact Čech-scattered spaces and show the following: (1) Let Σ be a Σ -product of paracompact Čech-scattered spaces. If Σ has countable tightness, then it is collectionwise normal. (2) If Σ is a Σ -product of first countable, paracompact (subparacompact) Čech-scattered spaces, then it is shrinking (subshrinking).

On ergodicity of some cylinder flows

Krzysztof Frączek (2000)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We study ergodicity of cylinder flows of the form    T f : T × T × , T f ( x , y ) = ( x + α , y + f ( x ) ) , where f : T is a measurable cocycle with zero integral. We show a new class of smooth ergodic cocycles. Let k be a natural number and let f be a function such that D k f is piecewise absolutely continuous (but not continuous) with zero sum of jumps. We show that if the points of discontinuity of D k f have some good properties, then T f is ergodic. Moreover, there exists ε f > 0 such that if v : T is a function with zero integral such that D k v is of bounded...
