Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Let M g + be the maximal operator defined by M g + ( x ) = s u p h > 0 ( ʃ x x + h | | g ) / ( ʃ x x + h g ) , where g is a positive locally integrable function on ℝ. Let Φ be an N-function such that both Φ and its complementary N-function satisfy Δ 2 . We characterize the pairs of positive functions (u,ω) such that the weak type inequality u ( x | M g + ( x ) > λ ) C / ( Φ ( λ ) ) ʃ Φ ( | | ) ω holds for every ⨍ in the Orlicz space L Φ ( ω ) . We also characterize the positive functions ω such that the integral inequality ʃ Φ ( | M g + | ) ω ʃ Φ ( | | ) ω holds for every L Φ ( ω ) . Our results include some already obtained for functions in L p and yield...

Let Φ ( t ) = ʃ 0 t a ( s ) d s and Ψ ( t ) = ʃ 0 t b ( s ) d s , where a(s) is a positive continuous function such that ʃ 1 a ( s ) / s d s = and b(s) is quasi-increasing and l i m s b ( s ) = . Relations between weighted Orlicz and B M O φ spaces through fractional integrals

Eleonor Ofelia Harboure, Oscar Salinas, Beatriz E. Viviani (1999)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We characterize the class of weights, invariant under dilations, for which a modified fractional integral operator I α maps weak weighted Orlicz - φ spaces into appropriate weighted versions of the spaces B M O ψ , where ψ ( t ) = t α / n φ - 1 ( 1 / t ) . This generalizes known results about boundedness of I α from weak L p into Lipschitz spaces for p > n / α and from weak L n / α into B M O . It turns out that the class of weights corresponding to I α acting on weak - L φ for φ of lower type equal or greater than n / α , is the same as the one solving the problem...

Two-weight weak type maximal inequalities in Orlicz classes

Luboš Pick (1991)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Necessary and sufficient conditions are shown in order that the inequalities of the form ϱ ( M μ f > λ ) Φ ( λ ) C ʃ X Ψ ( C | f ( x ) | ) σ ( x ) d μ , or ϱ ( M μ f > λ ) C ʃ X Φ ( C λ - 1 | f ( x ) | ) σ ( x ) d μ hold with some positive C independent of λ > 0 and a μ-measurable function f, where (X,μ) is a space with a complete doubling measure μ, M μ is the maximal operator with respect to μ, Φ, Ψ are arbitrary Young functions, and ϱ, σ are weights, not necessarily doubling.

On the best ranges for A p + and R H r +

María Silvina Riveros, A. de la Torre (2001)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

In this paper we study the relationship between one-sided reverse Hölder classes R H r + and the A p + classes. We find the best possible range of R H r + to which an A 1 + weight belongs, in terms of the A 1 + constant. Conversely, we also find the best range of A p + to which a R H + weight belongs, in terms of the R H + constant. Similar problems for A p + , 1 < p < and R H r + , 1 < r < are solved using factorization.

A Simpler Proof of the Negative Association Property for Absolute Values of Measures Tied to Generalized Orlicz Balls

Jakub Onufry Wojtaszczyk (2009)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

Similarity:

Negative association for a family of random variables ( X i ) means that for any coordinatewise increasing functions f,g we have ( X i , . . . , X i k ) g ( X j , . . . , X j l ) f ( X i , . . . , X i k ) g ( X j , . . . , X j l ) for any disjoint sets of indices (iₘ), (jₙ). It is a way to indicate the negative correlation in a family of random variables. It was first introduced in 1980s in statistics by Alem Saxena and Joag-Dev Proschan, and brought to convex geometry in 2005 by Wojtaszczyk Pilipczuk to prove the Central Limit Theorem for Orlicz balls. The paper gives a relatively simple...

Calderón couples of rearrangement invariant spaces

N. Kalton (1993)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We examine conditions under which a pair of rearrangement invariant function spaces on [0,1] or [0,∞) form a Calderón couple. A very general criterion is developed to determine whether such a pair is a Calderón couple, with numerous applications. We give, for example, a complete classification of those spaces X which form a Calderón couple with L . We specialize our results to Orlicz spaces and are able to give necessary and sufficient conditions on an Orlicz function F so that the pair...

Dual spaces to Orlicz-Lorentz spaces

Anna Kamińska, Karol Leśnik, Yves Raynaud (2014)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

For an Orlicz function φ and a decreasing weight w, two intrinsic exact descriptions are presented for the norm in the Köthe dual of the Orlicz-Lorentz function space Λ φ , w or the sequence space λ φ , w , equipped with either the Luxemburg or Amemiya norms. The first description is via the modular i n f φ ( f * / | g | ) | g | : g w , where f* is the decreasing rearrangement of f, ≺ denotes submajorization, and φ⁎ is the complementary function to φ. The second description is in terms of the modular I φ ( ( f * ) / w ) w ,where (f*)⁰ is Halperin’s level...

An operator characterization of L p -spaces in a class of Orlicz spaces

Maciej Burnecki (2008)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

We consider an embedding of the group of invertible transformations of [0,1] into the algebra of bounded linear operators on an Orlicz space. We show that if this embedding preserves the group action then the Orlicz space is an L p -space for some 1 ≤ p < ∞.

On a variant of the Hardy inequality between weighted Orlicz spaces

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Let M be an N-function satisfying the Δ₂-condition, and let ω, φ be two other functions, with ω ≥ 0. We study Hardy-type inequalities M ( ω ( x ) | u ( x ) | ) e x p ( - φ ( x ) ) d x C M ( | u ' ( x ) | ) e x p ( - φ ( x ) ) d x , where u belongs to some set of locally absolutely continuous functions containing C ( ) . We give sufficient conditions on the triple (ω,φ,M) for such inequalities to be valid for all u from a given set . The set may be smaller than the set of Hardy transforms. Bounds for constants are also given, yielding classical Hardy inequalities with best constants. ...

We will present relationships between the modular ρ* and the norm in the dual spaces ( L Φ ) * in the case when a Musielak-Orlicz space L Φ is equipped with the Orlicz norm. Moreover, criteria for extreme points of the unit sphere of the dual space ( L Φ ) * will be presented.
