On Pettis integral and Radon measures

Grzegorz Plebanek (1998)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Assuming the continuum hypothesis, we construct a universally weakly measurable function from [0,1] into a dual of some weakly compactly generated Banach space, which is not Pettis integrable. This (partially) solves a problem posed by Riddle, Saab and Uhl [13]. We prove two results related to Pettis integration in dual Banach spaces. We also contribute to the problem whether it is consistent that every bounded function which is weakly measurable with respect to some Radon measure is...

Almost all submaximal groups are paracompact and σ-discrete

Similarity:

We prove that any topological group of a non-measurable cardinality is hereditarily paracompact and strongly σ-discrete as soon as it is submaximal. Consequently, such a group is zero-dimensional. Examples of uncountable maximal separable spaces are constructed in ZFC.

Dynamical boundary of a self-similar set

Similarity:

Given a self-similar set E generated by a finite system Ψ of contracting similitudes of a complete metric space X we analyze a separation condition for Ψ, which is obtained if, in the open set condition, the open subset of X is replaced with an open set in the topology of E as a metric subspace of X. We prove that such a condition, which we call the restricted open set condition, is equivalent to the strong open set condition. Using the dynamical properties of the forward shift, we find...
