Complexity and growth for polygonal billiards

We establish a relationship between the word complexity and the number of generalized diagonals for a polygonal billiard. We conclude that in the rational case the complexity function has cubic upper and lower bounds. In the tiling case the complexity has cubic asymptotic growth.

We consider the monodromy group G of the Pochhammer differential equation 𝒫 . Let 𝒫 p be the reduce equation modulo a prime p . Then we show that G is finite if and only if 𝒫 p has a full set of polynomial solutions for almost all primes p .
