The boundary behavior of a composite material

Maria Neuss-Radu (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Similarity:

In this paper, we study how solutions to elliptic problems with periodically oscillating coefficients behave in the neighborhood of the boundary of a domain. We extend the results known for flat boundaries to domains with curved boundaries in the case of a layered medium. This is done by generalizing the notion of boundary layer and by defining boundary correctors which lead to an approximation of order ε in the energy norm.

The Behaviour of Weak Solutions of Boundary Value Problems for Linear Elliptic Second Order Equations in Unbounded Cone-Like Domains

Damian Wiśniewski (2016)

Annales Mathematicae Silesianae

Similarity:

We investigate the behaviour of weak solutions of boundary value problems (Dirichlet, Neumann, Robin and mixed) for linear elliptic divergence second order equations in domains extending to infinity along a cone. We find an exponent of the solution decreasing rate: we derive the estimate of the weak solution modulus for our problems near the infinity under assumption that leading coefficients of the equations do not satisfy the Dini-continuity condition.

Deficient Coerciveness Estimate for an Abstract Differential Equation with a Parameter Dependent Boundary Conditions

Aissa Aibeche, Angelo Favini, Chahrazed Mezoued (2007)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

In this paper we consider an abstract elliptic differential problem where the equation and the boundary conditions may contain a spectral parameter. We first prove that this problem generates an isomorphism between appropriate spaces and we establish a more precise estimate called coerciveness estimate with defect. The results obtained are applied to study some classes of elliptic, and also possibly degenerate, problems.

An overdetermined elliptic problem in a domain with countably rectifiable boundary

Przemysław Górka (2007)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We examine an elliptic equation in a domain Ω whose boundary ∂Ω is countably (m-1)-rectifiable. We also assume that ∂Ω satisfies a geometrical condition. We are interested in an overdetermined boundary value problem (examined by Serrin [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 43 (1971)] for classical solutions on domains with smooth boundary). We show that existence of a solution of this problem implies that Ω is an m-dimensional Euclidean ball.

Existence and uniqueness for a two-dimensional Ventcel problem modeling the equilibrium of a prestressed membrane

Antonio Greco, Giuseppe Viglialoro (2023)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

This paper deals with a mixed boundary-value problem of Ventcel type in two variables. The peculiarity of the Ventcel problem lies in the fact that one of the boundary conditions involves second order differentiation along the boundary. Under suitable assumptions on the data, we first give the definition of a weak solution, and then we prove that the problem is uniquely solvable. We also consider a particular case arising in real-world applications and discuss the resulting model. ...

Boundedness of the solution of the third problem for the Laplace equation

Dagmar Medková (2005)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

A necessary and sufficient condition for the boundedness of a solution of the third problem for the Laplace equation is given. As an application a similar result is given for the third problem for the Poisson equation on domains with Lipschitz boundary.
