Local linear estimation of conditional cumulative distribution function in the functional data: Uniform consistency with convergence rates

Chaima Hebchi, Abdelhak Chouaf (2021)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

In this paper, we investigate the problem of the conditional cumulative of a scalar response variable given a random variable taking values in a semi-metric space. The uniform almost complete consistency of this estimate is stated under some conditions. Moreover, as an application, we use the obtained results to derive some asymptotic properties for the local linear estimator of the conditional quantile.

Empirical comparison between the Nelson-Aalen Estimator and the Naive Local Constant Estimator.

Ana María Pérez-Marín (2008)

SORT

Similarity:

The Nelson-Aalen estimator is widely used in biostatistics as a non-parametric estimator of the cumulative hazard function based on a right censored sample. A number of alternative estimators can be mentioned, namely, the naive local constant estimator (Guillén, Nielsen and Pérez-Marín, 2007) which provides improved bias versus variance properties compared to the traditional Nelson-Aalen estimator. Nevertheless, an empirical comparison of these two estimators has never been carried out....

Strong uniform consistency rates of some characteristics of the conditional distribution estimator in the functional single-index model

Amina Angelika Bouchentouf, Tayeb Djebbouri, Abbes Rabhi, Khadidja Sabri (2014)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

The aim of this paper is to establish a nonparametric estimate of some characteristics of the conditional distribution. Kernel type estimators for the conditional cumulative distribution function and for the successive derivatives of the conditional density of a scalar response variable Y given a Hilbertian random variable X are introduced when the observations are linked with a single-index structure. We establish the pointwise almost complete convergence and the uniform almost complete...

Mean square error of the estimator of the conditional hazard function

Abbes Rabhi, Samir Benaissa, El Hadj Hamel, Boubaker Mechab (2013)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

This paper deals with a scalar response conditioned by a functional random variable. The main goal is to estimate the conditional hazard function. An asymptotic formula for the mean square error of this estimator is calculated considering as usual the bias and variance.

Unbiased risk estimation method for covariance estimation

Hélène Lescornel, Jean-Michel Loubes, Claudie Chabriac (2014)

ESAIM: Probability and Statistics

Similarity:

We consider a model selection estimator of the covariance of a random process. Using the Unbiased Risk Estimation (U.R.E.) method, we build an estimator of the risk which allows to select an estimator in a collection of models. Then, we present an oracle inequality which ensures that the risk of the selected estimator is close to the risk of the oracle. Simulations show the efficiency of this methodology.

Smoothing and preservation of irregularities using local linear fitting

Irène Gijbels (2008)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

For nonparametric estimation of a smooth regression function, local linear fitting is a widely-used method. The goal of this paper is to briefly review how to use this method when the unknown curve possibly has some irregularities, such as jumps or peaks, at unknown locations. It is then explained how the same basic method can be used when estimating unsmooth probability densities and conditional variance functions.

The LASSO estimator: Distributional properties

Rakshith Jagannath, Neelesh S. Upadhye (2018)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) is a popular technique for simultaneous estimation and model selection. There have been a lot of studies on the large sample asymptotic distributional properties of the LASSO estimator, but it is also well-known that the asymptotic results can give a wrong picture of the LASSO estimator's actual finite-sample behaviour. The finite sample distribution of the LASSO estimator has been previously studied for the special case of...

An alternative analysis of variance.

Nicholas T. Longford (2008)

SORT

Similarity:

The one-way analysis of variance is a staple of elementary statistics courses. The hypothesis test of homogeneity of the means encourages the use of the selected-model based estimators which are usually assessed without any regard for the uncertainty about the outcome of the test. We expose the weaknesses of such estimators when the uncertainty is taken into account, as it should be, and propose synthetic estimators as an alternative.

Robust m-estimator of parameters in variance components model

Roman Zmyślony, Stefan Zontek (2002)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

Similarity:

It is shown that a method of robust estimation in a two way crossed classification mixed model, recently proposed by Bednarski and Zontek (1996), can be extended to a more general case of variance components model with commutative a covariance matrices.

A review of the results on the Stein approach for estimators improvement.

Vassiliy G. Voinov, Mikhail S. Nikulin (1995)

Qüestiió

Similarity:

Since 1956, a large number of papers have been devoted to Stein's technique of obtaining improved estimators of parameters, for several statistical models. We give a brief review of these papers, emphasizing those aspects which are interesting from the point of view of the theory of unbiased estimation.
