On the von Neumann problem and the approximate controllability of Stackelberg-Nash strategies for some environmental problems.

Jesús Ildefonso Díaz (2002)

RACSAM

Similarity:

Two problems arising in Environment are considered. The first one concerns a conjecture posed by von Neumann in 1955 on the possible modification of the albedo in order to control the Earth surface temperature. The second one is related to the approximate controllability of Stackelberg-Nash strategies for some optimization problems as, for instance, the pollution control in a lake. The results of the second part were obtained in collaboration with Jacques-Lois Lions.

An output controllability problem for semilinear distributed hyperbolic systems

E. Zerrik, R. Larhrissi, H. Bourray (2007)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

The paper aims at extending the notion of regional controllability developed for linear systems cite to the semilinear hyperbolic case. We begin with an asymptotically linear system and the approach is based on an extension of the Hilbert uniqueness method and Schauder's fixed point theorem. The analytical case is then tackled using generalized inverse techniques and converted to a fixed point problem leading to an algorithm which is successfully implemented numerically and illustrated...

Global non-negative controllability of the semilinear parabolic equation governed by bilinear control

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

We study the global approximate controllability of the one dimensional semilinear convection-diffusion-reaction equation governed in a bounded domain via the coefficient (bilinear control) in the additive reaction term. Clearly, even in the linear case, due to the maximum principle, such system is not globally or locally controllable in any reasonable linear space. It is also well known that for the superlinear terms admitting a power growth at infinity the global approximate controllability...

Optimal blowup rates for the minimal energy null control of the strongly damped abstract wave equation

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

Similarity:

The null controllability problem for a structurally damped abstract wave equation –often referred to in the literature as a structurally damped equation– is considered with a view towards obtaining optimal rates of blowup for the associated minimal energy function min ( T ) , as terminal time T 0 . Key use is made of the underlying analyticity of the semigroup generated by the elastic operator 𝒜 , as well as of the explicit characterization of its domain of definition. We ultimately find that the...
