A review of procedures for summing Kapteyn series in mathematical physics.
We study convergence of solutions to stationary states in an astrophysical model of evolution of clouds of self-gravitating particles.
Short-term prediction of solar flare activity using multiple regression methods was considered. The variables describing active regions the given day were used to predict the flare activity on the next day. Two groups of observational data covering the years 1988 and 1989 were dealt with. Some variants of the distance-based regression as proposed by Cuadras and Arenas (1990) appeared to be superior to the ordinary least squares method by describing more accurately the data sets under consideration....
We consider hydrodynamical models describing the evolution of a gaseous star in which the presence of thermonuclear reactions between several species leads to a multicomponent formulation. In the case of binary mixtures, recent 3D results are evoked. In the one-dimensional situation, we can prove global estimates and stabilization for some simplified model.
The paper provides a review of A.M. Mathai's applications of the theory of special functions, particularly generalized hypergeometric functions, to problems in stellar physics and formation of structure in the Universe and to questions related to reaction, diffusion, and reaction-diffusion models. The essay also highlights Mathai's recent work on entropic, distributional, and differential pathways to basic concepts in statistical mechanics, making use of his earlier research results in information...
Pulsating stars are important sources of information for astrophysics. Nearly every star undergoes some kind of pulsation from the early stages of its formation until the very late ones i.e. the catastrophic creation of a supercompact object (white dwarf, neutron star or black hole). Pulsations of supercompact objects are of great importance for relativistic astrophysics since these pulsations are accompanied by the emission of gravitational radiation. In this review we shall discuss various features...
