On peaks in carrying simplices

Janusz Mierczyński (1999)

Colloquium Mathematicae

A necessary and sufficient condition is given for the carrying simplex of a dissipative totally competitive system of three ordinary differential equations to have a peak singularity at an axial equilibrium. For systems of Lotka-Volterra type that result translates into a simple condition on the coefficients.

On singularly perturbed ordinary differential equations with measure-valued limits

Zvi Artstein (2002)

Mathematica Bohemica

The limit behaviour of solutions of a singularly perturbed system is examined in the case where the fast flow need not converge to a stationary point. The topological convergence as well as information about the distribution of the values of the solutions can be determined in the case that the support of the limit invariant measure of the fast flow is an asymptotically stable attractor.

On the rate of convergence to the neutral attractor of a family of one-dimensional maps

T. Nowicki, M. Sviridenko, G. Świrszcz, S. Winograd (2009)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

For a family of maps f d ( p ) = 1 - ( 1 - p / d ) d , d ∈ [2,∞], p ∈ [0,1]. we analyze the speed of convergence (including constants) to the globally attracting neutral fixed point p = 0. The study is motivated by a problem in the optimization of routing. The aim of this paper is twofold: (1) to extend the usage of dynamical systems to unexplored areas of algorithms and (2) to provide a toolbox for a precise analysis of the iterates near a non-degenerate neutral fixed point.
