Relaxation models of phase transition flows

Philippe HelluyNicolas Seguin — 2006

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

In this work, we propose a general framework for the construction of pressure law for phase transition. These equations of state are particularly suitable for a use in a relaxation finite volume scheme. The approach is based on a constrained convex optimization problem on the mixture entropy. It is valid for both miscible and immiscible mixtures. We also propose a rough pressure law for modelling a super-critical fluid.

A coupled well-balanced and random sampling scheme for computing bubble oscillations

Philippe HelluyJonathan Jung — 2012

ESAIM: Proceedings

We propose a finite volume scheme to study the oscillations of a spherical bubble of gas in a liquid phase. Spherical symmetry implies a geometric source term in the Euler equations. Our scheme satisfies the well-balanced property. It is based on the VFRoe approach. In order to avoid spurious pressure oscillations, the well-balanced approach is coupled with an ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) technique at the interface and a random sampling remap.

Hyperbolic relaxation models for granular flows

Thierry GallouëtPhilippe HelluyJean-Marc HérardJulien Nussbaum — 2010

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

In this work we describe an efficient model for the simulation of a two-phase flow made of a gas and a granular solid. The starting point is the two-velocity two-pressure model of Baer and Nunziato [ (1986) 861–889]. The model is supplemented by a relaxation source term in order to take into account the pressure equilibrium between the two phases and the granular stress in the solid phase. We show that the relaxation process can be made thermodynamically coherent with an adequate...

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

This paper is devoted to the numerical simulation of wave breaking. It presents the results of a numerical workshop that was held during the conference LOMA04. The objective is to compare several mathematical models (compressible or incompressible) and associated numerical methods to compute the flow field during a wave breaking over a reef. The methods will also be compared with experiments.
