A relationship between the non-acyclic Reidemeister torsion and a zero of the acyclic Reidemeister torsion

We show a relationship between the non-acyclic Reidemeister torsion and a zero of the acyclic Reidemeister torsion for a λ -regular SU ( 2 ) or SL ( 2 , ) -representation of a knot group. Then we give a method to calculate the non-acyclic Reidemeister torsion of a knot exterior. We calculate a new example and investigate the behavior of the non-acyclic Reidemeister torsion associated to a 2 -bridge knot and SU ( 2 ) -representations of its knot group.

The Reidemeister-Turaev torsion of standard Spin c structures on Seifert fibered 3-manifolds

Yuya Koda (2012)

Annales de la faculté des sciences de Toulouse Mathématiques

Similarity:

The Reidemeister-Turaev torsion is an invariant of 3-manifolds equipped with Spin c structures. Here, a Spin c structure of a 3-manifold is a homology class of non-singular vector fields on it. Each Seifert fibered 3-manifold has a standard Spin c structure, which is represented as a non-singular vector field the set of whose orbits give a Seifert fibration. We provide an algorithm for computing the Reidemeister-Turaev torsion of the standard Spin c structure on a Seifert fibered 3-manifold....

Comparison of the refined analytic and the Burghelea-Haller torsions

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

The refined analytic torsion associated to a flat vector bundle over a closed odd-dimensional manifold canonically defines a quadratic form τ on the determinant line of the cohomology. Both τ and the Burghelea-Haller torsion are refinements of the Ray-Singer torsion. We show that whenever the Burghelea-Haller torsion is defined it is equal to ± τ . As an application we obtain new results about the Burghelea-Haller torsion. In particular, we prove a weak version of the Burghelea-Haller conjecture...

Torsion in graph homology

Khovanov homology for knots has generated a flurry of activity in the topology community. This paper studies the Khovanov type cohomology for graphs with a special attention to torsion. When the underlying algebra is ℤ[x]/(x²), we determine precisely those graphs whose cohomology contains torsion. For a large class of algebras, we show that torsion often occurs. Our investigation of torsion led to other related general results. Our computation could potentially be used to predict the...
