In this paper we consider a hyperbolic-parabolic problem that models the longitudinal deformations of a thermoviscoelastic rod supported unilaterally by an elastic obstacle. The existence and uniqueness of a strong solution is shown. A finite element approximation is proposed and its convergence is proved. Numerical experiments are reported.

A new approximation scheme is presented for the mathematical model of convection-diffusion and adsorption. The method is based on the relaxation method and the method of characteristics. We prove the convergence of the method and present some numerical experiments in 1D. The results can be applied to the model of contaminant transport in porous media with multi-site, equilibrium and non-equilibrium type of adsorption.

The paper deals with an initial problem of a parabolic variational inequality whichcontains a nonlinear elliptic form having a potential , which is twice -differentiable at arbitrary . This property of makes it possible to prove convergence of an approximate solution defined by a linearized scheme which is fully discretized - in space by the finite elements method and in time by a one-step finite-difference method. Strong convergence of the approximate solution is proved without...

Existence of a solution of the problem of nonlinear elasticity with non-classical boundary conditions, when the relationship between the corresponding dual quantities is given in terms of a nonmonotone and generally multivalued relation. The mathematical formulation leads to a problem of non-smooth and nonconvex optimization, and in its weak form to hemivariational inequalities and to the determination of the so called substationary points of the given potential.
