On the nonlifiear theory of beams with open thin sections

Placido Cicala (1987)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Similarity:

Analysis of beam with thin open sections as cylindrical shells evidences restrictions of the Wagner-Vlasof theory: these mainly concern the fulfillment of end conditions. For the case of large deflections, the resultant equations from asymptotic analysis are presented. Their application to buckling under pure flexure shows various novel aspects. By a simple direct approach, investigation is pursued beyond the critical state: the buckled configuration turns out to be stable even for laxer...

Asymptotic Stability of Zakharov-Kuznetsov solitons

Didier Pilod (2014-2015)

Séminaire Laurent Schwartz — EDP et applications

Similarity:

In this report, we review the proof of the asymptotic stability of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov solitons in dimension two. Those results were recently obtained in a joint work with Raphaël Côte, Claudio Muñoz and Gideon Simpson.

Stability of the Pohožaev obstrucion in dimension 3

Olivier Druet, Paul Laurain (2010)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We investigate problems connected to the stability of the well-known Pohoˇzaev obstruction. We generalize results which were obtained in the minimizing setting by Brezis and Nirenberg [2] and more recently in the radial situation by Brezis and Willem [3].

Unconditional nonlinear stability in a polarized dielectric liquid

Giuseppe Mulone, Salvatore Rionero, Brian Straughan (1996)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Similarity:

We derive a very sharp nonlinear stability result for the problem of thermal convection in a layer of dielectric fluid subject to an alternating current (AC). It is particularly important to note that the size of the initial energy in which we establish global nonlinear stability is not restricted whatsoever, and the Rayleigh-Roberts number boundary coincides with that found by a formal linear instability analysis.
