The surjectivity of the operator $D_2+i{x}_2^{2k}{D}_1$ from the Gevrey space ${\mathcal{E}}^{\left\{s\right\}}\left({\mathbb{R}}^2\right)$, $s\ge 1$, onto itself and its non-surjectivity from ${\mathcal{E}}^{\left\{s\right\}}\left({\mathbb{R}}^3\right)$ to ${\mathcal{E}}^{\left\{s\right\}}\left({\mathbb{R}}^3\right)$ is proved.

$\mathrm{\Omega }$ is a bounded open set of ${\mathbb{R}}^n$, of class $C^2$ and $T>0$. It is further shown that if $u\in W_0^{2,1}\left(Q\right)$ is a solution of the basic system $a\left(H\left(u\right)\right)-\partial u/\partial t=0$ in $Q$, then $H\left(u\right)$ and $\partial u/\partial t$ belong to $H_{loc}^1\left(Q\right)$. Let $A$ be a closed set of $M\simeq {\mathbb{R}}^n$, whose conormai cones $x+y_x^{*}\left(A\right)$, $x\in A$, have locally empty intersection. We first show in §1 that $\text{dist}\left(x,A\right)$, $x\in M\setminus A$ is a $C^1$ function. We then represent the n microfunctions of ${\mathcal{C}}_{A|X}$, $X\simeq {\mathbb{C}}^n$, using cohomology groups of ${\mathcal{O}}_X$ of degree 1. Let $P\left(z\right)={\sum }_{\nu =0}^n{a}_{\nu }{z}^{\nu }$ be a polynomial of degree at most $n$ which does not vanish in the disk $\left|z\right|<1$, then for $1\le p<\infty$ and $R>1$, Boas and Rahman proved $${∥P\left(Rz\right)∥}_p\le ({∥R^n+z∥}_p/{∥1+z∥}_p){∥P∥}_p.$$ In this paper, we improve the above inequality for $0\le p<\infty$ by involving some of the coefficients of the polynomial $P\left(z\right)$. Analogous result for the class of polynomials $P\left(z\right)$ having no zero in $\left|z\right|>1$ is also given.

The numerical approximation of the minimum problem: ${min}_{A\subseteq \mathrm{\Omega }}\tilde{\mathcal{F}}\left(A\right)$, is considered, where $\tilde{\mathcal{F}}\left(A\right)=P_{\mathrm{\Omega }}\left(A\right)+\cos \left(\theta \right){\mathcal{H}}^{n-1}\left(\partial A\cap \partial \mathrm{\Omega }\right)-{\int }_A\kappa$. The solution to this problem is a set $A\subseteq \mathrm{\Omega }\subset {\mathbb{R}}^n$ with prescribed mean curvature $\kappa$ and contact angle $\theta$ at the intersection of $\partial A$ with $\partial \mathrm{\Omega }$. The functional $\tilde{\mathcal{F}}$ is first relaxed with a sequence of nonconvex functionals defined in $H^1\left(\mathrm{\Omega }\right)$ which, in turn, are discretized by finite elements. The $\mathrm{\Gamma }$-convergence of the discrete functionals to $\tilde{\mathcal{F}}$ as well as the compactness of any sequence of discrete absolute minimizers are proven. ...
