Operator-splitting and Lagrange multiplier domain decomposition methods for numerical simulation of two coupled Navier-Stokes fluids

Didier Bresch, Jonas Koko (2006)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

We present a numerical simulation of two coupled Navier-Stokes flows, using ope-rator-split-ting and optimization-based non-overlapping domain decomposition methods. The model problem consists of two Navier-Stokes fluids coupled, through a common interface, by a nonlinear transmission condition. Numerical experiments are carried out with two coupled fluids; one with an initial linear profile and the other in rest. As expected, the transmission condition generates a recirculation within...

A splitting method using discontinuous Galerkin for the transient incompressible Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper we solve the time-dependent incompressible Navier-Stokes equations by splitting the non-linearity and incompressibility, and using discontinuous or continuous finite element methods in space. We prove optimal error estimates for the velocity and suboptimal estimates for the pressure. We present some numerical experiments.

Finite element discretization of Darcy's equations with pressure dependent porosity

We consider the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a rigid homogeneous porous medium. The permeability of the medium depends on the pressure, so that the model is nonlinear. We propose a finite element discretization of this problem and, in the case where the dependence on the pressure is bounded from above and below, we prove its convergence to the solution and propose an algorithm to solve the discrete system. In the case where the dependence on the pressure is exponential,...

Finite-element discretizations of a two-dimensional grade-two fluid model

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

We propose and analyze several finite-element schemes for solving a grade-two fluid model, with a tangential boundary condition, in a two-dimensional polygon. The exact problem is split into a generalized Stokes problem and a transport equation, in such a way that it always has a solution without restriction on the shape of the domain and on the size of the data. The first scheme uses divergence-free discrete velocities and a centered discretization of the transport term, whereas the...

Adaptive finite element methods for elliptic problems: Abstract framework and applications

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We consider a general abstract framework of a continuous elliptic problem set on a Hilbert space that is approximated by a family of (discrete) problems set on a finite-dimensional space of finite dimension not necessarily included into . We give a series of realistic conditions on an error estimator that allows to conclude that the marking strategy of bulk type leads to the geometric convergence of the adaptive algorithm. These conditions are then verified for different concrete...
