Universal completely regular dendrites

K. Omiljanowski, S. Zafiridou (2005)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We define a dendrite E n which is universal in the class of all completely regular dendrites with order of points not greater than n. In particular, the dendrite E ω is universal in the class of all completely regular dendrites. The construction starts with the standard universal dendrite D n of order n described by J. J. Charatonik.

Internally club and approachable for larger structures

John Krueger (2008)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We generalize the notion of a fat subset of a regular cardinal κ to a fat subset of P κ ( X ) , where κ ⊆ X. Suppose μ < κ, μ < μ = μ , and κ is supercompact. Then there is a generic extension in which κ = μ⁺⁺, and for all regular λ ≥ μ⁺⁺, there are stationarily many N in [ H ( λ ) ] μ which are internally club but not internally approachable.

On C 0 · multi-contractions having a regular dilation

Dan Popovici (2005)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Commuting multi-contractions of class C 0 · and having a regular isometric dilation are studied. We prove that a polydisc contraction of class C 0 · is the restriction of a backwards multi-shift to an invariant subspace, extending a particular case of a result by R. E. Curto and F.-H. Vasilescu. A new condition on a commuting multi-operator, which is equivalent to the existence of a regular isometric dilation and improves a recent result of A. Olofsson, is obtained as a consequence. ...

Regular coordinates and reduction of deformation equations for Fuchsian systems

Yoshishige Haraoka (2012)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

For a Fuchsian system d Y / d x = ( j = p ( A j ) / ( x - t j ) ) Y , (F) t , t , . . . , t p being distinct points in ℂ and A , A , . . . , A p M ( n × n ; ) , the number α of accessory parameters is determined by the spectral types s ( A ) , s ( A ) , . . . , s ( A p ) , where A = - j = 1 p A j . We call the set z = ( z , z , . . . , z α ) of α parameters a regular coordinate if all entries of the A j are rational functions in z. It is not yet known that, for any irreducibly realizable set of spectral types, a regular coordinate does exist. In this paper we study a process of obtaining a new regular coordinate from a given one by a coalescence of eigenvalues...

The genera, reflexibility and simplicity of regular maps

Marston Conder, Jozef Širáň, Thomas Tucker (2010)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

This paper uses combinatorial group theory to help answer some long-standing questions about the genera of orientable surfaces that carry particular kinds of regular maps. By classifying all orientably-regular maps whose automorphism group has order coprime to g - 1 , where g is the genus, all orientably-regular maps of genus p + 1 for p prime are determined. As a consequence, it is shown that orientable surfaces of infinitely many genera carry no regular map that is chiral (irreflexible), and...

Some remarks providing discontinuous maps on some C p ( X ) spaces

S. Moll (2008)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff topological space and C p ( X ) the space of continuous real-valued maps on X endowed with the pointwise topology. A simple and natural argument is presented to show how to construct on the space C p ( X ) , if X contains a homeomorphic copy of the closed interval [0,1], real-valued maps which are everywhere discontinuous but continuous on all compact subsets of C p ( X ) .

Twistor transforms of quaternionic functions and orthogonal complex structures

Graziano Gentili, Simon Salamon, Caterina Stoppato (2014)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

The theory of slice-regular functions of a quaternion variable is applied to the study of orthogonal complex structures on domains Ω of 4 . When Ω is a symmetric slice domain, the twistor transform of such a function is a holomorphic curve in the Klein quadric. The case in which Ω is the complement of a parabola is studied in detail and described by a rational quartic surface in the twistor space P 3 .

When C p ( X ) is domain representable

William Fleissner, Lynne Yengulalp (2013)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let M be a metrizable group. Let G be a dense subgroup of M X . We prove that if G is domain representable, then G = M X . The following corollaries answer open questions. If X is completely regular and C p ( X ) is domain representable, then X is discrete. If X is zero-dimensional, T₂, and C p ( X , ) is subcompact, then X is discrete.

Superapproximation of the partial derivatives in the space of linear triangular and bilinear quadrilateral finite elements

Dalík, Josef

Similarity:

A method for the second-order approximation of the values of partial derivatives of an arbitrary smooth function u = u ( x 1 , x 2 ) in the vertices of a conformal and nonobtuse regular triangulation 𝒯 h consisting of triangles and convex quadrilaterals is described and its accuracy is illustrated numerically. The method assumes that the interpolant Π h ( u ) in the finite element space of the linear triangular and bilinear quadrilateral finite elements from 𝒯 h is known only.

A Regular Threefold of General Type with p g = 0 and P 2 = 6

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

The range of the bigenus P 2 is one of the unsolved problems concerning smooth complex projective regular threefolds of general type with p g = 0 : The examples in the literature have P 2 5 . In the present paper we present a non-singular threefold with p g = q 1 = q 2 = 0 ; P 2 = 6 ; the bicanonical map is stably birational.

On gradient at infinity of semialgebraic functions

Didier D'Acunto, Vincent Grandjean (2005)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

Let f: ℝⁿ → ℝ be a C² semialgebraic function and let c be an asymptotic critical value of f. We prove that there exists a smallest rational number ϱ c 1 such that |x|·|∇f| and | f ( x ) - c | ϱ c are separated at infinity. If c is a regular value and ϱ c < 1 , then f is a locally trivial fibration over c, and the trivialisation is realised by the flow of the gradient field of f.

Regular elements and Green's relations in Menger algebras of terms

Klaus Denecke, Prakit Jampachon (2006)

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

Similarity:

Defining an (n+1)-ary superposition operation S n on the set W τ ( X n ) of all n-ary terms of type τ, one obtains an algebra n - c l o n e τ : = ( W τ ( X n ) ; S n , x 1 , . . . , x n ) of type (n+1,0,...,0). The algebra n-clone τ is free in the variety of all Menger algebras ([9]). Using the operation S n there are different possibilities to define binary associative operations on the set W τ ( X n ) and on the cartesian power W τ ( X n ) n . In this paper we study idempotent and regular elements as well as Green’s relations in semigroups of terms with these binary associative...

Equidistribution towards the Green current for holomorphic maps

Tien-Cuong Dinh, Nessim Sibony (2008)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Similarity:

Let f be a non-invertible holomorphic endomorphism of a projective space and f n its iterate of order n . We prove that the pull-back by f n of a generic (in the Zariski sense) hypersurface, properly normalized, converges to the Green current associated to f when n tends to infinity. We also give an analogous result for the pull-back of positive closed ( 1 , 1 ) -currents and a similar result for regular polynomial automorphisms of k .

On higher-order semilinear parabolic equations with measures as initial data

Victor Galaktionov (2004)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We consider 2 m th-order ( m 2 ) semilinear parabolic equations u t = ( Δ ) m u ± | u | p 1 u in N × + ( p > 1 ) , with Dirac’s mass δ ( x ) as the initial function. We show that for p < p 0 = 1 + 2 m / N , the Cauchy problem admits a solution u ( x , t ) which is bounded and smooth for small t > 0 , while for p p 0 such a local in time solution does not exist. This leads to a boundary layer phenomenon in constructing a proper solution via regular approximations.

Some results on spaces with 1 -calibre

Similarity:

We prove that, assuming , if X is a space with 1 -calibre and a zeroset diagonal, then X is submetrizable. This gives a consistent positive answer to the question of Buzyakova in Observations on spaces with zeroset or regular G δ -diagonals, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 46 (2005), no. 3, 469–473. We also make some observations on spaces with 1 -calibre.
