Strict u-ideals in Banach spaces

Vegard Lima, Åsvald Lima (2009)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We study strict u-ideals in Banach spaces. A Banach space X is a strict u-ideal in its bidual when the canonical decomposition X * * * = X * X is unconditional. We characterize Banach spaces which are strict u-ideals in their bidual and show that if X is a strict u-ideal in a Banach space Y then X contains c₀. We also show that is not a u-ideal.

The ideal (a) is not G δ generated

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We prove that the ideal (a) defined by the density topology is not G δ generated. This answers a question of Z. Grande and E. Strońska.

Standardly stratified split and lower triangular algebras

Eduardo do N. Marcos, Hector A. Merklen, Corina Sáenz (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

In the first part, we study algebras A such that A = R ⨿ I, where R is a subalgebra and I a two-sided nilpotent ideal. Under certain conditions on I, we show that A is standardly stratified if and only if R is standardly stratified. Next, for A = U 0 M V , we show that A is standardly stratified if and only if the algebra R = U × V is standardly stratified and V M is a good V-module.

On norm closed ideals in L ( p , q )

B. Sari, Th. Schlumprecht, N. Tomczak-Jaegermann, V. G. Troitsky (2007)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

It is well known that the only proper non-trivial norm closed ideal in the algebra L(X) for X = p (1 ≤ p < ∞) or X = c₀ is the ideal of compact operators. The next natural question is to describe all closed ideals of L ( p q ) for 1 ≤ p,q < ∞, p ≠ q, or equivalently, the closed ideals in L ( p , q ) for p < q. This paper shows that for 1 < p < 2 < q < ∞ there are at least four distinct proper closed ideals in L ( p , q ) , including one that has not been studied before. The proofs use various methods...

Generalization of the topological algebra ( C b ( X ) , β )

Jorma Arhippainen, Jukka Kauppi (2009)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We study subalgebras of C b ( X ) equipped with topologies that generalize both the uniform and the strict topology. In particular, we study the Stone-Weierstrass property and describe the ideal structure of these algebras.

Decomposition of finitely generated modules using Fitting ideals

Somayeh Hadjirezaei, Sina Hedayat (2020)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring and M be a finitely generated R -module. The main result of this paper is to characterize modules whose first nonzero Fitting ideal is a product of maximal ideals of R , in some cases.

Closed ideals in algebras of smooth functions

Hanin Leonid G.

Similarity:

AbstractA topological algebra admits spectral synthesis of ideals (SSI) if every closed ideal in this algebra is an intersection of closed primary ideals. According to classical results this is the case for algebras of continuous, several times continuously differentiable, and Lipschitz functions. New examples (and counterexamples) of function algebras that admit or fail to have SSI are presented. It is shown that the Sobolev algebra W p l ( ) , 1 ≤ p < ∞, has the property of SSI for and only...

On wsq-primary ideals

Emel Aslankarayiğit Uğurlu, El Mehdi Bouba, Ünsal Tekir, Suat Koç (2023)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We introduce weakly strongly quasi-primary (briefly, wsq-primary) ideals in commutative rings. Let R be a commutative ring with a nonzero identity and Q a proper ideal of R . The proper ideal Q is said to be a weakly strongly quasi-primary ideal if whenever 0 a b Q for some a , b R , then a 2 Q or b Q . Many examples and properties of wsq-primary ideals are given. Also, we characterize nonlocal Noetherian von Neumann regular rings, fields, nonlocal rings over which every proper ideal is wsq-primary, and zero...

Monomial ideals with tiny squares and Freiman ideals

Ibrahim Al-Ayyoub, Mehrdad Nasernejad (2021)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We provide a construction of monomial ideals in R = K [ x , y ] such that μ ( I 2 ) < μ ( I ) , where μ denotes the least number of generators. This construction generalizes the main result of S. Eliahou, J. Herzog, M. Mohammadi Saem (2018). Working in the ring R , we generalize the definition of a Freiman ideal which was introduced in J. Herzog, G. Zhu (2019) and then we give a complete characterization of such ideals. A particular case of this characterization leads to some further investigations on μ ( I k ) that generalize...

On the Noether exponent

Anna Stasica (2003)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

We obtain, in a simple way, an estimate for the Noether exponent of an ideal I without embedded components (i.e. we estimate the smallest number μ such that ( r a d I ) μ I ).

Second duals of measure algebras

H. G. Dales, A. T.-M. Lau, D. Strauss

Similarity:

Let G be a locally compact group. We shall study the Banach algebras which are the group algebra L¹(G) and the measure algebra M(G) on G, concentrating on their second dual algebras. As a preliminary we shall study the second dual C₀(Ω)” of the C*-algebra C₀(Ω) for a locally compact space Ω, recognizing this space as C(Ω̃), where Ω̃ is the hyper-Stonean envelope of Ω. We shall study the C*-algebra B b ( Ω ) of bounded Borel functions on Ω, and we shall determine the exact cardinality of a variety...

On some properties of the upper central series in Leibniz algebras

Leonid A. Kurdachenko, Javier Otal, Igor Ya. Subbotin (2019)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

This article discusses the Leibniz algebras whose upper hypercenter has finite codimension. It is proved that such an algebra L includes a finite dimensional ideal K such that the factor-algebra L / K is hypercentral. This result is an extension to the Leibniz algebra of the corresponding result obtained earlier for Lie algebras. It is also analogous to the corresponding results obtained for groups and modules.

Approximate amenability for Banach sequence algebras

H. G. Dales, R. J. Loy, Y. Zhang (2006)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We consider when certain Banach sequence algebras A on the set ℕ are approximately amenable. Some general results are obtained, and we resolve the special cases where A = p for 1 ≤ p < ∞, showing that these algebras are not approximately amenable. The same result holds for the weighted algebras p ( ω ) .

Dual complementors in topological algebras

Marina Haralampidou (2005)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

We deal with dual complementors on complemented topological (non-normed) algebras and give some characterizations of a dual pair of complementors for some classes of complemented topological algebras. The study of dual complementors shows their deep connection with dual algebras. In particular, we refer to Hausdorff annihilator locally C*-algebras and to proper Hausdorff orthocomplemented locally convex H*-algebras. These algebras admit, by their nature, the same type of dual pair of...

When does the Katětov order imply that one ideal extends the other?

Paweł Barbarski, Rafał Filipów, Nikodem Mrożek, Piotr Szuca (2013)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We consider the Katětov order between ideals of subsets of natural numbers (" K ") and its stronger variant-containing an isomorphic ideal ("⊑ "). In particular, we are interested in ideals for which K for every ideal . We find examples of ideals with this property and show how this property can be used to reformulate some problems known from the literature in terms of the Katětov order instead of the order "⊑ " (and vice versa).

More on the strongly 1-absorbing primary ideals of commutative rings

Ali Yassine, Mohammad Javad Nikmehr, Reza Nikandish (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let R be a commutative ring with identity. We study the concept of strongly 1-absorbing primary ideals which is a generalization of n -ideals and a subclass of 1 -absorbing primary ideals. A proper ideal I of R is called strongly 1-absorbing primary if for all nonunit elements a , b , c R such that a b c I , it is either a b I or c 0 . Some properties of strongly 1-absorbing primary ideals are studied. Finally, rings R over which every semi-primary ideal is strongly 1-absorbing primary, and rings R over which...

On quasi n -ideals of commutative rings

Adam Anebri, Najib Mahdou, Emel Aslankarayiğit Uğurlu (2022)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let R be a commutative ring with a nonzero identity. In this study, we present a new class of ideals lying properly between the class of n -ideals and the class of ( 2 , n ) -ideals. A proper ideal I of R is said to be a quasi n -ideal if I is an n -ideal of R . Many examples and results are given to disclose the relations between this new concept and others that already exist, namely, the n -ideals, the quasi primary ideals, the ( 2 , n ) -ideals and the p r -ideals. Moreover, we use the quasi n -ideals to characterize...

On finitely generated closed ideals in H ( D )

Jean Bourgain (1985)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Similarity:

Assume f 1 , ... , f N a finite set of functions in H ( D ) , the space of bounded analytic functions on the open unit disc. We give a sufficient condition on a function f in H ( D ) to belong to the norm-closure of the ideal I ( f 1 , ... , f N ) generated by f 1 , ... , f N , namely the property | f ( z ) | α ( | f 1 ( z ) | + ... + | f N ( z ) | ) for z D for some function α : R + R + satisfying lim t 0 α ( t ) / t = 0 . The main feature in the proof is an improvement in the contour-construction appearing in L. Carleson’s solution of the corona-problem. It is also shown that the property | f ( z ) | C max 1 j N | f j ( z ) | for z D ...

Squarefree monomial ideals with maximal depth

Similarity:

Let ( R , 𝔪 ) be a Noetherian local ring and M a finitely generated R -module. We say M has maximal depth if there is an associated prime 𝔭 of M such that depth M = dim R / 𝔭 . In this paper we study squarefree monomial ideals which have maximal depth. Edge ideals of cycle graphs, transversal polymatroidal ideals and high powers of connected bipartite graphs with this property are classified.
