The additive group actions on -homology planes

Kayo Masuda, Masayoshi Miyanishi (2003)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

In this article, we prove that a -homology plane X with two algebraically independent G a -actions is isomorphic to either the affine plane or a quotient of an affine hypersurface x y = z m - 1 in the affine 3 -space via a free / m -action, where m is the order of a finite group H 1 ( X ; ) .

Group actions on rational homology spheres

Stefano De Michelis (1991)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Similarity:

We study the homology of the fixed point set on a rational homology sphere under the action of a finite group.

Invariants of translation surfaces

Pascal Hubert, Thomas A. Schmidt (2001)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

We definite invariants of translation surfaces which refine Veech groups. These aid in exact determination of Veech groups. We give examples where two surfaces of isomorphic Veech group cannot even share a common tree of balanced affine coverings. We also show that there exist translation surfaces of isomorphic Veech groups which cannot affinely cover any common surface. We also extend a result of Gutkin and Judge and thereby give the first examples of noncompact...
