A role of the coefficient of the differential term in qualitative theory of half-linear equations

Pavel Řehák (2010)

Mathematica Bohemica

The aim of this contribution is to study the role of the coefficient r in the qualitative theory of the equation ( r ( t ) Φ ( y Δ ) ) Δ + p ( t ) Φ ( y σ ) = 0 , where Φ ( u ) = | u | α - 1 sgn u with α > 1 . We discuss sign and smoothness conditions posed on r , (non)availability of some transformations, and mainly we show how the behavior of r , along with the behavior of the graininess of the time scale, affect some comparison results and (non)oscillation criteria. At the same time we provide a survey of recent results acquired by sophisticated modifications of the Riccati...

Asymptotic properties of third order functional dynamic equations on time scales

I. Kubiaczyk, S. H. Saker (2011)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic properties of nonoscillatory solutions of the third order nonlinear functional dynamic equation [ p ( t ) [ ( r ( t ) x Δ ( t ) ) Δ ] γ ] Δ + q ( t ) f ( x ( τ ( t ) ) ) = 0 , t ≥ t₀, on a time scale , where γ > 0 is a quotient of odd positive integers, and p, q, r and τ are positive right-dense continuous functions defined on . We classify the nonoscillatory solutions into certain classes C i , i = 0,1,2,3, according to the sign of the Δ-quasi-derivatives and obtain sufficient conditions in order that C i = . Also, we establish...

Carathéodory solutions of Sturm-Liouville dynamic equation with a measure of noncompactness in Banach spaces

Ahmet Yantir, Ireneusz Kubiaczyk, Aneta Sikorska-Nowak (2015)

Open Mathematics

In this paper, we present the existence result for Carathéodory type solutions for the nonlinear Sturm- Liouville boundary value problem (SLBVP) in Banach spaces on an arbitrary time scale. For this purpose, we introduce an equivalent integral operator to the SLBVP by means of Green’s function on an appropriate set. By imposing the regularity conditions expressed in terms of Kuratowski measure of noncompactness, we prove the existence of the fixed points of the equivalent integral operator. Mönch’s...

Controllability and observability of time-invariant linear dynamic systems

Martin Bohner, Nick Wintz (2012)

Mathematica Bohemica

In the paper, we unify and extend some basic properties for linear control systems as they appear in the continuous and discrete cases. In particular, we examine controllability, reachability, and observability for time-invariant systems and establish a duality principle.

Existence of a positive solution to a nonlocal semipositone boundary value problem on a time scale

Christopher S. Goodrich (2013)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We consider the existence of at least one positive solution to the dynamic boundary value problem - y Δ Δ ( t ) = λ f ( t , y ( t ) ) , t [ 0 , T ] 𝕋 y ( 0 ) = τ 1 τ 2 F 1 ( s , y ( s ) ) Δ s y σ 2 ( T ) = τ 3 τ 4 F 2 ( s , y ( s ) ) Δ s , where 𝕋 is an arbitrary time scale with 0 < τ 1 < τ 2 < σ 2 ( T ) and 0 < τ 3 < τ 4 < σ 2 ( T ) satisfying τ 1 , τ 2 , τ 3 , τ 4 𝕋 , and where the boundary conditions at t = 0 and t = σ 2 ( T ) can be both nonlinear and nonlocal. This extends some recent results on second-order semipositone dynamic boundary value problems, and we illustrate these extensions with some examples.

Existence of Periodic Solutions for Nonlinear Neutral Dynamic Equations with Functional Delay on a Time Scale

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Facultas Rerum Naturalium. Mathematica

Let 𝕋 be a periodic time scale. The purpose of this paper is to use a modification of Krasnoselskii’s fixed point theorem due to Burton to prove the existence of periodic solutions on time scale of the nonlinear dynamic equation with variable delay x t = - a t h x σ t + c ( t ) x ˜ t - r t + G t , x t , x t - r t , t 𝕋 , where f is the -derivative on 𝕋 and f ˜ is the -derivative on ( i d - r ) ( 𝕋 ) . We invert the given equation to obtain an equivalent integral equation from which we define a fixed point mapping written as a sum of a large contraction and a compact map. We show...
