A bifurcation theory for some nonlinear elliptic equations

We deal with the problem ⎧ -Δu = f(x,u) + λg(x,u), in Ω, ⎨ ( P λ ) ⎩ u Ω = 0 where Ω ⊂ ℝⁿ is a bounded domain, λ ∈ ℝ, and f,g: Ω×ℝ → ℝ are two Carathéodory functions with f(x,0) = g(x,0) = 0. Under suitable assumptions, we prove that there exists λ* > 0 such that, for each λ ∈ (0,λ*), problem ( P λ ) admits a non-zero, non-negative strong solution u λ p 2 W 2 , p ( Ω ) such that l i m λ 0 | | u λ | | W 2 , p ( Ω ) = 0 for all p ≥ 2. Moreover, the function λ I λ ( u λ ) is negative and decreasing in ]0,λ*[, where I λ is the energy functional related to ( P λ ).

Arbitrary number of positive solutions for an elliptic problem with critical nonlinearity

We show that the critical nonlinear elliptic Neumann problem Δ u μ u + u 7 / 3 = 0 in Ω , u > 0 in Ω , u ν = 0 on Ω , where Ω is a bounded and smooth domain in 5 , has arbitrarily many solutions, provided that μ > 0 is small enough. More precisely, for any positive integer K , there exists μ K > 0 such that for 0 < μ < μ K , the above problem has a nontrivial solution which blows up at K interior points in Ω , as μ 0 . Bifurcation of free vibrations for completely resonant wave equations

We prove existence of small amplitude, 2p/v-periodic in time solutions of completely resonant nonlinear wave equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions for any frequency ω belonging to a Cantor-like set of positive measure and for a generic set of nonlinearities. The proof relies on a suitable Lyapunov-Schmidt decomposition and a variant of the Nash-Moser Implicit Function Theorem.

Consider a bifurcation problem, namely, its bifurcation equation. There is a diffeomorphism Φ linking the actual solution set with an unfolded normal form of the bifurcation equation. The differential D Φ ( 0 ) of this diffeomorphism is a valuable information for a numerical analysis of the imperfect bifurcation. The aim of this paper is to construct algorithms for a computation of D Φ ( 0 ) . Singularity classes containing bifurcation points with c o d i m 3 , c o r a n k = 1 are considered.

Local properties of the solution set of the operator equation in Banach spaces in a neighbourhood of a bifurcation point

In this work we study the problem of the existence of bifurcation in the solution set of the equation F(x, λ)=0, where F: X×R k →Y is a C 2-smooth operator, X and Y are Banach spaces such that X⊂Y. Moreover, there is given a scalar product 〈·,·〉: Y×Y→R 1 that is continuous with respect to the norms in X and Y. We show that under some conditions there is bifurcation at a point (0, λ0)∈X×R k and we describe the solution set of the studied equation in a small neighbourhood of this point.
