Comparison of active control techniques over a dihedral plane

Emmanuel Creusé (2001)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

This work is devoted to the numerical comparison of four active control techniques in order to increase the pressure recovery generated by the deceleration of a slightly compressible viscous flow over a dihedral plane. It is performed by the use of vortex generator jets and intrusive sensors. The governing equations, the two-dimensional direct numerical simulation code and the flow configuration are first briefly recalled. Then, the objective of the control is carefully displayed, and the uncontrolled...

Estimate of vegetation efficiency on reducing dust concentration produced by a surface coal mine

Řezníček, Hynek, Beneš, Luděk (2019)

Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics

A new vegetative barrier can help to reduce dust concentration in a surface coal mine neighbourhood. The project reports about quantification of this effect. An air flow field is computed together with the dust transport driven by it using an in-house CFD solver. The 2D cuts of a real geometry of Bílina coal mine in north Bohemia are used. The vegetation is modelled as horizontally homogeneous porous medium which slows the air flow inside. An influence on turbulence and filtering the dust particles...

Mathematical and numerical analysis of an alternative well-posed two-layer turbulence model

Bijan Mohammadi, Guillaume Puigt (2001)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

In this article, we wish to investigate the behavior of a two-layer k - ε turbulence model from the mathematical point of view, as this model is useful for the near-wall treatment in numerical simulations. First, we explain the difficulties inherent in the model. Then, we present a new variable θ that enables the mathematical study. Due to a problem of definition of the turbulent viscosity on the wall boundary, we consider an alternative version of the original equation. We show that some physical aspects...
