A step to Kurzweil-Henstock—an outline

B. D. Craven (2004)

Mathematica Bohemica

A short approach to the Kurzweil-Henstock integral is outlined, based on approximating a real function on a compact interval by suitable step-functions, and using filterbase convergence to define the integral. The properties of the integral are then easy to establish.

A strongly nonlinear problem arising in glaciology

Jacques Colinge, Jacques Rappaz (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

The computation of glacier movements leads to a system of nonlinear partial differential equations. The existence and uniqueness of a weak solution is established by using the calculus of variations. A discretization by the finite element method is done. The solution of the discrete problem is proved to be convergent to the exact solution. A first simple numerical algorithm is proposed and its convergence numerically studied.

A theorem of the Hahn-Banach type and its applications

Zbigniew Gajda, Andrzej Smajdor, Wilhelmina Smajdor (1992)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Let Y be a subgroup of an abelian group X and let T be a given collection of subsets of a linear space E over the rationals. Moreover, suppose that F is a subadditive set-valued function defined on X with values in T. We establish some conditions under which every additive selection of the restriction of F to Y can be extended to an additive selection of F. We also present some applications of results of this type to the stability of functional equations.
