Je zvykem, že si připomínáme výročí narození či úmrtí významných osobností v době související s naším užíváním dekadické soustavy. Loni uplynulo od Neugebauerova narození 120 let a letos uplynulo 30 let od jeho úmrtí. Přitom ani matematici si často neuvědomují, za co vše mu vděčíme, což je jeden z důvodů pro napsání tohoto článku.
