Článek přináší čtenáři základní informace o poměrně úzké části vývoje matematiky v Německu a o vlivu, který na něj měl Felix Klein. Zhruba řečeno jde o poměr k aplikované matematice a o roli klíčových postav popisovaných změn. I když se v článku v prvé řadě zabývám dobou na začátku 20. stol., věnuji pozornost i dalšímu meziválečnému vývoji a je na čtenáři, aby zvážil některé paralely se současnou situací.
