Hru v šachy zná každý z nás včetně malých dětí a většina z nás také ovládá její pravidla alespoň na úrovni umožňující její rekreační hraní. Šachy přitom rozvíjí logické myšlení, algoritmizaci a strategické uvažování. Nejsou však jedinou činností, kterou lze na ploše šachovnice, ať už jakkoliv velké, provozovat. Dalšími možnostmi jsou kromě dámy nebo historických předchůdců šachu – šatranže a čaturangy – nejrůznější logické a matematické úkoly či rébusy. Ty jsou leckdy bez větších obtíží řešitelné...
V současné době dochází k úpadku zájmu žáků a studentů o přírodovědné obory, mezi nimi i o matematiku. Je tedy vhodné pokoušet se hledat nové možnosti motivace studentů, které je přivedou k zájmu o tuto vědu nebo dokonce k jejímu dalšímu a hlubšímu studiu. Mezi možné motivační nástroje lze zahrnout například celosvětovou hru geocaching, která nabízí v kombinaci s outdoorovým vyžitím při hledání „pokladů“ i množství neotřelých a zajímavých úloh z matematiky a logiky, případně i dalších vědních oborů....
Eliminace kvantifikátorů v oboru reálných čísel je jednou z mladších oblastí na pomezí matematiky, logiky a výpočetní techniky. Pomocí metody nazývané cylindrická algebraická dekompozice dovoluje zjednodušit matematické kvantifikované formule do jednoduššího tvaru neobsahujícího kvantifikátory. Jelikož se jedná o vcelku složitý postup, jsou velmi užitečné programy počítačové algebry (například program Mathematica od firmy Wolfram Research). Functions are introduced to pupils at the secondary school only. However, it is possible to include the propedeutics of functions already at nursery or primary school. At nursery, children can work with dependences, i.e. create and complete numbers sequences by means of manipulation, movement or graphic records. At primary school, learners complete numbers sequences or tables and familiarise themselves with the linear function by solving simple tasks from real life.
