Variations of mixed Hodge structure attached to the deformation theory of a complex variation of Hodge structures

Philippe Eyssidieux, Carlos Simpson (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

Let X be a compact Kähler manifold, x X be a base point and ρ : π 1 ( X , x ) G L N ( C ) be the monodromy representation of a 𝒞 -VHS. Building on Goldman–Millson’s classical work, we construct a mixed Hodge structure on the complete local ring of the representation variety at ρ and a variation of mixed Hodge structures whose monodromy is the universal deformation of ρ .

Brunnian local moves of knots and Vassiliev invariants

Akira Yasuhara (2006)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

K. Habiro gave a neccesary and sufficient condition for knots to have the same Vassiliev invariants in terms of C k -moves. In this paper we give another geometric condition in terms of Brunnian local moves. The proof is simple and self-contained.

On the colored Jones polynomials of ribbon links, boundary links and Brunnian links

Sakie Suzuki (2014)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Habiro gave principal ideals of [ q , q - 1 ] in which certain linear combinations of the colored Jones polynomials of algebraically-split links take values. The author proved that the same linear combinations for ribbon links, boundary links and Brunnian links are contained in smaller ideals of [ q , q - 1 ] generated by several elements. In this paper, we prove that these ideals also are principal, each generated by a product of cyclotomic polynomials.

The Seiberg–Witten invariants of negative definite plumbed 3-manifolds

András Némethi (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

Assume that Γ is a connected negative definite plumbing graph, and that the associated plumbed 3-manifold M is a rational homology sphere. We provide two new combinatorial formulae for the Seiberg–Witten invariant of M . The first one is the constant term of a ‘multivariable Hilbert polynomial’, it reflects in a conceptual way the structure of the graph Γ , and emphasizes the subtle parallelism between these topological invariants and the analytic invariants of normal surface singularities....

On second order Thom-Boardman singularities

László M. Fehér, Balázs Kőműves (2006)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We derive closed formulas for the Thom polynomials of two families of second order Thom-Boardman singularities Σ i , j . The formulas are given as linear combinations of Schur polynomials, and all coefficients are nonnegative.

Łojasiewicz exponents and singularities at infinity of polynomials in two complex variables

Janusz Gwoździewicz, Arkadiusz Płoski (2005)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

For every polynomial F in two complex variables we define the Łojasiewicz exponents p , t ( F ) measuring the growth of the gradient ∇F on the branches centered at points p at infinity such that F approaches t along γ. We calculate the exponents p , t ( F ) in terms of the local invariants of singularities of the pencil of projective curves associated with F.

Lyapunov Exponents of Rank 2 -Variations of Hodge Structures and Modular Embeddings

André Kappes (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

If the monodromy representation of a VHS over a hyperbolic curve stabilizes a rank two subspace, there is a single non-negative Lyapunov exponent associated with it. We derive an explicit formula using only the representation in the case when the monodromy is discrete.

μ -constant monodromy groups and marked singularities

Claus Hertling (2011)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

μ -constant families of holomorphic function germs with isolated singularities are considered from a global perspective. First, a monodromy group from all families which contain a fixed singularity is studied. It consists of automorphisms of the Milnor lattice which respect not only the intersection form, but also the Seifert form and the monodromy. We conjecture that it contains all such automorphisms, modulo ± id . Second, marked singularities are defined and global moduli...

Hodge Classes and Abelian Varieties of Quaternionic Type

Giuseppe Lombardo (2006)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

We obtain coniugacy classes (with respect to a 𝔰 l 2 action) in the space of Hodge cycles in the middle cohomology of an Abelian variety of quaternionic type. The existence of such a class simplifies the study of the Hodge conjecture.

The action spectrum near positive definite invariant tori

Patrick Bernard (2003)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We show that the Birkhoff normal form near a positive definite KAM torus is given by the function α of Mather. This observation is due to Siburg [Si2], [Si1] in dimension 2. It clarifies the link between the Birkhoff invariants and the action spectrum near the torus. Our extension to high dimension is made possible by a simplification of the proof given in [Si2].

Witten's Conjecture for many four-manifolds of simple type

Paul M. N. Feehan, Thomas G. Leness (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We prove that Witten’s Conjecture [40] on the relationship between the Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten series for a four-manifold of Seiberg-Witten simple type with b 1 = 0 and odd b 2 + 3 follows from our ( 3 ) -monopole cobordism formula [6] when the four-manifold has c 1 2 χ h - 3 or is abundant.

Cocycle invariants of codimension 2 embeddings of manifolds

Józef H. Przytycki, Witold Rosicki (2014)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

We consider the classical problem of a position of n-dimensional manifold Mⁿ in n + 2 . We show that we can define the fundamental (n+1)-cycle and the shadow fundamental (n+2)-cycle for a fundamental quandle of a knotting M n + 2 . In particular, we show that for any fixed quandle, quandle coloring, and shadow quandle coloring, of a diagram of Mⁿ embedded in n + 2 we have (n+1)- and (n+2)-(co)cycle invariants (i.e. invariant under Roseman moves).

A cohomology theory for colored tangles

Carmen Caprau (2014)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

We employ the sl(2) foam cohomology to define a cohomology theory for oriented framed tangles whose components are labeled by irreducible representations of U q ( s l ( 2 ) ) . We show that the corresponding colored invariants of tangles can be assembled into invariants of bigger tangles. For the case of knots and links, the corresponding theory is a categorification of the colored Jones polynomial, and provides a tool for efficient computations of the resulting colored invariant of knots and links....

Asymptotic Vassiliev invariants for vector fields

Sebastian Baader, Julien Marché (2012)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We analyse the asymptotical growth of Vassiliev invariants on non-periodic flow lines of ergodic vector fields on domains of 3 . More precisely, we show that the asymptotics of Vassiliev invariants is completely determined by the helicity of the vector field.

Hodge numbers attached to a polynomial map

R. García López, A. Némethi (1999)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Similarity:

We attach a limit mixed Hodge structure to any polynomial map f : n . The equivariant Hodge numbers of this mixed Hodge structure are invariants of f which reflect its asymptotic behaviour. We compute them for a generic class of polynomials in terms of equivariant Hodge numbers attached to isolated hypersurface singularities and equivariant Hodge numbers of cyclic coverings of projective space branched along a hypersurface. We show how these invariants allow to determine topological invariants...

Hodge type decomposition

Wojciech Kozłowski (2007)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

In the space Λ p of polynomial p-forms in ℝⁿ we introduce some special inner product. Let H p be the space of polynomial p-forms which are both closed and co-closed. We prove in a purely algebraic way that Λ p splits as the direct sum d * ( Λ p + 1 ) δ * ( Λ p - 1 ) H p , where d* (resp. δ*) denotes the adjoint operator to d (resp. δ) with respect to that inner product.

Naive boundary strata and nilpotent orbits

Matt Kerr, Gregory Pearlstein (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

We give a Hodge-theoretic parametrization of certain real Lie group orbits in the compact dual of a Mumford-Tate domain, and characterize the orbits which contain a naive limit Hodge filtration. A series of examples are worked out for the groups S U ( 2 , 1 ) , S p 4 , and G 2 .

Thom polynomials and Schur functions: the singularities I I I 2 , 3 ( - )

Özer Öztürk (2010)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

We give a closed formula for the Thom polynomials of the singularities I I I 2 , 3 ( - ) in terms of Schur functions. Our computations combine the characterization of the Thom polynomials via the “method of restriction equations” of Rimányi et al. with the techniques of Schur functions.

Welschinger invariants of small non-toric Del Pezzo surfaces

Ilia Itenberg, Viatcheslav Kharlamov, Eugenii Shustin (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We give a recursive formula for purely real Welschinger invariants of the following real Del Pezzo surfaces: the projective plane blown up at q real and s 1 pairs of conjugate imaginary points, where q + 2 s 5 , and the real quadric blown up at s 1 pairs of conjugate imaginary points and having non-empty real part. The formula is similar to Vakil’s recursive formula [22] for Gromov–Witten invariants of these surfaces and generalizes our recursive formula [12] for purely real Welschinger invariants...

Legendrian and transverse twist knots

John B. Etnyre, Lenhard L. Ng, Vera Vértesi (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

In 1997, Chekanov gave the first example of a Legendrian nonsimple knot type: the m ( 5 2 ) knot. Epstein, Fuchs, and Meyer extended his result by showing that there are at least n different Legendrian representatives with maximal Thurston-Bennequin number of the twist knot K - 2 n with crossing number 2 n + 1 . In this paper we give a complete classification of Legendrian and transverse representatives of twist knots. In particular, we show that K - 2 n has exactly n 2 2 Legendrian representatives with maximal Thurston–Bennequin...
