Stability in nonlinear evolution problems by means of fixed point theorems

Jaromír J. Koliha, Ivan Straškraba (1997)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The stabilization of solutions to an abstract differential equation is investigated. The initial value problem is considered in the form of an integral equation. The equation is solved by means of the Banach contraction mapping theorem or the Schauder fixed point theorem in the space of functions decreasing to zero at an appropriate rate. Stable manifolds for singular perturbation problems are compared with each other. A possible application is illustrated on an initial-boundary-value problem for...

Stabilization of solutions to a differential-delay equation in a Banach space

J. J. Koliha, Ivan Straškraba (1997)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

A parameter dependent nonlinear differential-delay equation in a Banach space is investigated. It is shown that if at the critical value of the parameter the problem satisfies a condition of linearized stability then the problem exhibits a stability which is uniform with respect to the whole range of the parameter values. The general theorem is applied to a diffusion system with applications in biology.

Subdifferential inclusions and quasi-static hemivariational inequalities for frictional viscoelastic contact problems

Stanisław Migórski (2012)

Open Mathematics

We survey recent results on the mathematical modeling of nonconvex and nonsmooth contact problems arising in mechanics and engineering. The approach to such problems is based on the notions of an operator subdifferential inclusion and a hemivariational inequality, and focuses on three aspects. First we report on results on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to subdifferential inclusions. Then we discuss two classes of quasi-static hemivariational ineqaulities, and finally, we present ideas...

The coincidence index for fundamentally contractible multivalued maps with nonconvex values

Dorota Gabor (2000)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We study a coincidence problem of the form A(x) ∈ ϕ (x), where A is a linear Fredholm operator with nonnegative index between Banach spaces and ϕ is a multivalued A-fundamentally contractible map (in particular, it is not necessarily compact). The main tool is a coincidence index, which becomes the well known Leray-Schauder fixed point index when A=id and ϕ is a compact singlevalued map. An application to boundary value problems for differential equations in Banach spaces is given.

The fixed point theorem and the boundedness of solutions of differential equations in the Banach space

František Tumajer (1993)

Mathematica Bohemica

The properties of solutions of the nonlinear differential equation x ' = A ( s ) x + f ( s , x ) in a Banach space and of the special case of the homogeneous linear differential equation x ' = A ( s ) x are studied. Theorems and conditions guaranteeing boundedness of the solution of the nonlinear equation are given on the assumption that the solutions of the linear homogeneous equation have certain properties.

The Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrals and existence theorems for the Cauchy problem

Mieczysław Cichoń, Ireneusz Kubiaczyk, Sikorska-Nowak, Aneta Sikorska-Nowak, Aneta (2004)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

In this paper we prove an existence theorem for the Cauchy problem x ' ( t ) = f ( t , x ( t ) ) , x ( 0 ) = x 0 , t I α = [ 0 , α ] using the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integral and its properties. The requirements on the function f are not too restrictive: scalar measurability and weak sequential continuity with respect to the second variable. Moreover, we suppose that the function f satisfies some conditions expressed in terms of measures of weak noncompactness.
