A general class of iterative equations on the unit circle

Marek Cezary Zdun, Wei Nian Zhang (2007)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

A class of functional equations with nonlinear iterates is discussed on the unit circle 𝕋 1 . By lifting maps on 𝕋 1 and maps on the torus 𝕋 n to Euclidean spaces and extending their restrictions to a compact interval or cube, we prove existence, uniqueness and stability for their continuous solutions.

A model of competition

Peter Kahlig (2012)

Applicationes Mathematicae

A competition model is described by a nonlinear first-order differential equation (of Riccati type). Its solution is then used to construct a functional equation in two variables (admitting essentially the same solution) and several iterative functional equations; their continuous solutions are presented in various forms (closed form, power series, integral representation, asymptotic expansion, continued fraction). A constant C = 0.917... (inherent in the model) is shown to be a transcendental number....

A solution of an open problem concerning Lagrangian mean-type mappings

Dorota Głazowska (2011)

Open Mathematics

The problem of invariance of the geometric mean in the class of Lagrangian means was considered in [Głazowska D., Matkowski J., An invariance of geometric mean with respect to Lagrangian means, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 2007, 331(2), 1187–1199], where some necessary conditions for the generators of Lagrangian means have been established. The question if all necessary conditions are also sufficient remained open. In this paper we solve this problem.
