Existence et régularité höldérienne des fonctions de bosses

Moez Ben Abid (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We discuss the almost sure existence of random functions that can be written as sums of elementary pulses. We then estimate their uniform Hölder regularity by applying some results on coverings by random intervals.

JOP's counting function and Jones' square function

Karin Reinhold (2006)

Studia Mathematica

We study a class of square functions in a general framework with applications to a variety of situations: samples along subsequences, averages of d actions and of positive L¹ contractions. We also study the relationship between a counting function first introduced by Jamison, Orey and Pruitt, in a variety of situations, and the corresponding ergodic averages. We show that the maximal counting function is not dominated by the square functions.

Lacunary convergence of series in L0 revisited.

Lech Drewnowski (2000)

Revista Matemática Complutense

A simpler proof is given for the recent result of I. Labuda and the author that a series in the space L0 (lambda) is subseries convergent if each of its lacunary subseries converges.

On a construction of majorizing measures on subsets of ℝⁿ with special metrics

Jakub Olejnik (2010)

Studia Mathematica

We consider processes Xₜ with values in L p ( Ω , , P ) and “time” index t in a subset A of the unit cube. A natural condition of boundedness of increments is assumed. We give a full characterization of the domains A for which all such processes are a.e. continuous. We use the notion of Talagrand’s majorizing measure as well as geometrical Paszkiewicz-type characteristics of the set A. A majorizing measure is constructed.

On a weak form of uniform convergence

Jaroslav Fuka, Petr Holický (2005)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The notion of Δ -convergence of a sequence of functions is stronger than pointwise convergence and weaker than uniform convergence. It is inspired by the investigation of ill-posed problems done by A.N. Tichonov. We answer a question posed by M. Katětov around 1970 by showing that the only analytic metric spaces X for which pointwise convergence of a sequence of continuous real valued functions to a (continuous) limit function on X implies Δ -convergence are σ -compact spaces. We show that the assumption...

On ideal equal convergence

Rafał Filipów, Marcin Staniszewski (2014)

Open Mathematics

We consider ideal equal convergence of a sequence of functions. This is a generalization of equal convergence introduced by Császár and Laczkovich [Császár Á., Laczkovich M., Discrete and equal convergence, Studia Sci. Math. Hungar., 1975, 10(3–4), 463–472]. Our definition of ideal equal convergence encompasses two different kinds of ideal equal convergence introduced in [Das P., Dutta S., Pal S.K., On and *-equal convergence and an Egoroff-type theorem, Mat. Vesnik, 2014, 66(2), 165–177]_and [Filipów...
