Uniqueness of the optimal control for a Lotka-Volterra control problem with a large crowding effect
We discuss properties (optimal regularity, nondegeneracy, smoothness of the free boundary etc.) of a variational interface problem involving the fractional Laplacian; due to the nonlocality of the Dirichlet problem, the task is nontrivial. This difficulty is bypassed by an extension formula, discovered by the first author and Silvestre, which reduces the study to that of a codimension 2 (degenerate) free boundary.
The problem to find an optimal thickness of the plate in a set of bounded Lipschitz continuous functions is considered. Mean values of the intensity of shear stresses must not exceed a given value. Using a penalty method and finite element spaces with interpolation to overcome the “locking” effect, an approximate optimization problem is proposed. We prove its solvability and present some convergence analysis.
The paper deals with homogenization of a linear elliptic boundary problem with a specific class of uncertain coefficients describing composite materials with periodic structure. Instead of stochastic approach to the problem, we use the worst scenario method due to Hlaváček (method of reliable solution). A few criterion functionals are introduced. We focus on the range of the homogenized coefficients from knowledge of the ranges of individual components in the composite, on the values of generalized...
