Remarks on the equatorial shallow water system

Chloé Mullaert (2010)

Annales de la faculté des sciences de Toulouse Mathématiques

This article recalls the results given by A. Dutrifoy, A. Majda and S. Schochet in [1] in which they prove an uniform estimate of the system as well as the convergence to a global solution of the long wave equations as the Froud number tends to zero. Then, we will prove the convergence with weaker hypothesis and show that the life span of the solutions tends to infinity as the Froud number tends to zero.

Stability and contagion measures for spatial extreme value analyzes

Cecília Fonseca, Helena Ferreira, Luísa Pereira, Ana Paula Martins (2014)

Kybernetika

As part of global climate change an accelerated hydrologic cycle (including an increase in heavy precipitation) is anticipated (Trenberth [20, 21]). So, it is of great importance to be able to quantify high-impact hydrologic relationships, for example, the impact that an extreme precipitation (or temperature) in a location has on a surrounding region. Building on the Multivariate Extreme Value Theory we propose a contagion index and a stability index. The contagion index makes it possible to quantify...

The blocking of an inhomogeneous Bingham fluid. Applications to landslides

Patrick Hild, Ioan R. Ionescu, Thomas Lachand-Robert, Ioan Roşca (2002)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

This work is concerned with the flow of a viscous plastic fluid. We choose a model of Bingham type taking into account inhomogeneous yield limit of the fluid, which is well-adapted in the description of landslides. After setting the general threedimensional problem, the blocking property is introduced. We then focus on necessary and sufficient conditions such that blocking of the fluid occurs. The anti-plane flow in twodimensional and onedimensional cases is considered. A variational formulation...
