A note on the commutator of two operators on a locally convex space

Denote by C the commutator A B - B A of two bounded operators A and B acting on a locally convex topological vector space. If A C - C A = 0 , we show that C is a quasinilpotent operator and we prove that if A C - C A is a compact operator, then C is a Riesz operator.

Some results about the continuity of special linear maps between F -spaces recently obtained by Drewnowski have motivated us to revise a closed graph theorem for quasi-Suslin spaces due to Valdivia. We extend Valdivia’s theorem by showing that a linear map with closed graph from a Baire tvs into a tvs admitting a relatively countably compact resolution is continuous. For a given bi-continuous semigroup ( T ( t ) ) t 0 on a Banach space X we define its adjoint on an appropriate closed subspace X of the norm dual X ' . Under some abstract conditions this adjoint semigroup is again bi-continuous with respect to the weak topology σ ( X , X ) .
