On a property of weak resolvents and its application to a spectral problem

Yoichi Uetake (1997)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We show that the poles of a resolvent coincide with the poles of its weak resolvent up to their orders, for operators on Hilbert space which have some cyclic properties. Using this, we show that a theorem similar to the Mlak theorem holds under milder conditions, if a given operator and its adjoint have cyclic vectors.

On a quadratically convergent method using divided differences of order one under the gamma condition

Ioannis Argyros, Hongmin Ren (2008)

Open Mathematics

We re-examine a quadratically convergent method using divided differences of order one in order to approximate a locally unique solution of an equation in a Banach space setting [4, 5, 7]. Recently in [4, 5, 7], using Lipschitz conditions, and a Newton-Kantorovich type approach, we provided a local as well as a semilocal convergence analysis for this method which compares favorably to other methods using two function evaluations such as the Steffensen’s method [1, 3, 13]. Here, we provide an analysis...

On a question of Mbekhta.

Christoph Schmoeger (2005)

Extracta Mathematicae

The present paper deals with a question of M. Mbekhta concerning partial isometries on Banach spaces.

On a Question of Pełczyński about Strictly Singular Operators

Jesús M. F. Castillo, Marilda Simoes, Jesús Suárez de la Fuente (2012)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

We exhibit new examples of weakly compact strictly singular operators with dual not strictly cosingular and characterize the weakly compact strictly singular surjections with strictly cosingular adjoint as those having strictly singular bitranspose. We then obtain new examples of super-strictly singular quotient maps and show that the strictly singular quotient maps in Kalton-Peck sequences are not super-strictly singular.

On a result of Peetre about interpolation of operator spaces

Fernando Cobos, Teresa Signes (2000)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

We establish interpolation formulæ for operator spaces that are components of a given quasi-normed operator ideal. Sometimes we assume that one of the couples involved is quasi-linearizable, some other times we assume injectivity or surjectivity in the ideal. We also show the necessity of these suppositions.

On a secant-like method for solving generalized equations

Ioannis K. Argyros, Said Hilout (2008)

Mathematica Bohemica

In the paper by Hilout and Piétrus (2006) a semilocal convergence analysis was given for the secant-like method to solve generalized equations using Hölder-type conditions introduced by the first author (for nonlinear equations). Here, we show that this convergence analysis can be refined under weaker hypothesis, and less computational cost. Moreover finer error estimates on the distances involved and a larger radius of convergence are obtained.

On a space of entire functions rapidly decreasing on Rn and its Fourier transform

Il’dar Kh. Musin (2015)

Concrete Operators

A space of entire functions of several complex variables rapidly decreasing on Rn and such that their growth along iRn is majorized with the help of a family of weight functions is considered in this paper. For such space an equivalent description in terms of estimates on all of its partial derivatives as functions on Rn and a Paley-Wiener type theorem are obtained.

On a sub-supersolution method for the prescribed mean curvature problem

Vy Khoi Le (2008)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The paper is about a sub-supersolution method for the prescribed mean curvature problem. We formulate the problem as a variational inequality and propose appropriate concepts of sub- and supersolutions for such inequality. Existence and enclosure results for solutions and extremal solutions between sub- and supersolutions are established.
