Adams spectral sequence and higher torsion in MSp*.

Boris I. Botvinnik, Stanley O. Kochman (1996)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

In this paper we study higher torsion in the symplectic cobordism ring. We use Toda brackets and manifolds with singularities to construct elements of higher torsion and use the Adams spectral sequence to determine an upper bound for the order of these elements.

Adjunction of n-equivalences and triad connectivity.

Peter J. Witbooi (1995)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

We prove a new adjunction theorem for n-equivalences. This theorem enables us to produce a simple geometric version of proof of the triad connectivity theorem of Blakers and Massey. An important intermediate step is a study of the collapsing map S∨X → S, S being a sphere.

Affine group acting on hyperspaces of compact convex subsets of ℝⁿ

Sergey A. Antonyan, Natalia Jonard-Pérez (2013)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

For every n ≥ 2, let cc(ℝⁿ) denote the hyperspace of all nonempty compact convex subsets of the Euclidean space ℝⁿ endowed with the Hausdorff metric topology. Let cb(ℝⁿ) be the subset of cc(ℝⁿ) consisting of all compact convex bodies. In this paper we discover several fundamental properties of the natural action of the affine group Aff(n) on cb(ℝⁿ). We prove that the space E(n) of all n-dimensional ellipsoids is an Aff(n)-equivariant retract of cb(ℝⁿ). This is applied to show that cb(ℝⁿ) is homeomorphic...

Algebraic characteristic classes for idempotent matrices.

Francisco Gómez (1992)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

This paper contains the algebraic analog for idempotent matrices of the Chern-Weil theory of characteristic classes. This is used to show, algebraically, that the canonical line bundle on the complex projective space is not stably trivial. Also a theorem is proved saying that for any smooth manifold there is a canonical epimorphism from the even dimensional algebraic de Rham cohomology of its algebra of smooth functions onto the standard even dimensional de Rham cohomology of the manifold.

Algebraic cobordism of bundles on varieties

Y.-P. Lee, Rahul Pandharipande (2012)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

The double point relation defines a natural theory of algebraic cobordism for bundles on varieties. We construct a simple basis (over ) of the corresponding cobordism groups over Spec( ) for all dimensions of varieties and ranks of bundles. The basis consists of split bundles over products of projective spaces. Moreover, we prove the full theory for bundles on varieties is an extension of scalars of standard algebraic cobordism.

Algebraic equivalence of real algebraic cycles

Miguel Abánades, Wojciech Kucharz (1999)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Given a compact nonsingular real algebraic variety we study the algebraic cohomology classes given by algebraic cycles algebraically equivalent to zero.
