Linearized Gauss-Newton iteration method is used to determine main axes of the
three-dimensional ellipsoid approximating a peach. Three independent photos displaying the peach as ground, side, and front view are used as data sources. Using the Newton iteration scheme, the problem is approximated by a sequence of linear equations solved via the Galerkin method. The derivatiove loss inherent to this kind of problems is compensated by taking advantage of smoothing operators.
